Wife uses it for shopping and looking at pictures.

Kids use it for games.

I prefer an ordinary laptop.

I think it's great that the modern man embraces this new way of integrating the use of porn into their marriage. There are a lot of people who could learn from your tolerance and understanding.

Could any of you bargain hunters point out to me the cheapest place to get the iPad 2 64Gb?

apple

Main Street

Apple US  $699.00
Apple UK £599

it's $265 cheaper to buy an iPad 64gb in the USA

US prices are quoted without sales tax (if applicable), UK include VAT.

Main Street

Where sales tax applies in the US ,  5% to 10%
Still makes the iPad at least $200 cheaper in the US than in the UK

You would probably be liable for customs fees if you get it posted to you from America.

Yep you would and you would most likely be billed up front  by the courier company.

If you are Vat registered there is minimal difference in UK and US prices.

Would they open a parcel though to check what's in it? If you had someone who would take delivery from Apple in the states and forward it onto you afterwards could you avoid the fees that way?

They don't have to open it to know what is in it.

Plus when you send a parcel from the states you have to state the value of it, even if it classed as a present. I think anything under 80 dollars and they don't really bother with but then if you don't declare the value you won't be insured (bit of a gamble to say a few quid).

Don't forget it will be courier company who will chase you for the customs duty and certain companies will not deliver until you pay up beforehand.

So...... my laptop  seems to  be on the way out. It's  nearly  10 years old.   Didn't use  it much except for zoom calls , YouTube,  iplayer, emails etc

I  was thinking of an iPad instead of another laptop

I am familiar with  iPhones, so I'm assuming  they are basically the same thing, only bigger?

Are  they worth it?
How much would they   cost?
Is there a cheaper  alternative that would do  the Same things I'm after?
