I remember reading somewhere before that Martin Short's da was a stowaway and that is how he ended up in Canada.  Rhianna, Ali, Obama and the new Mexican boxing sensation Alvarez are all touted as having some Irish links.  Here is the page of those with Irish links from Bill Murray and Alec Baldwin to John Cusack and George Clooney.  This is a topic I find very interesting, and there was a decent thread on the Red Legs here last year too which is below also:

Quick Wiki check shows that they are cousins, their fathers are brothers and emigrated from Crossmaglen. They were born in Canada and Birmingham respectively.

Their fathers were also brothers of the late Paddy Short who ran Short's pub in Crossmaglen until he died a few years back.

I saw Black 47 many times in Paddy Reilly's in Manhattan, the lead singer was from Wexford but one of the band members was an ex-member of Dexy's supposedly.
