US soldiers take hurling into 30 million homes

Apparently American soldiers going through Shannon have been watching hurling on tv and have decided to start playing.
Kieran 'Fraggy' Murphy from Cork has been advising them.

Any support is good support but these people are odious. They may be taking hurling to US homes but in
Iraq it is  white phosphorous and depleted uranium. They should never have been allowed anywhere near Shannon.

The hurley is the new WMD. In the right hands it can be deadly.

Agreee these fellow should never have been in Shannon in the first place.

You are aware that that article details Saddam Hussein's attacks on his own people with chemical weapons, right?

"These people" are under orders. If you have a problem with the politics of the Iraq war, take it up with the management who started it.

They're playing hurling. It's a good thing no matter where you stand on the war.

Zapatista

The bastards better not be saying Sláinte either ;)

You know who sold him the weapons,. Eamonn, don't you ?
Hundreds of thousands dead and  3 million refugees later, do you still support the Iraq war?

What struck me about that bilge was the Israeli input. Israel wanted that war.

I find it fascinating that US soldiers are playing hurling to be honest! the potential here is huge. I did not support  the war in iraq as I felt that  Bush was deliberately moving the attention away from the hunt for Bin Laden! It's the political masters that give the orders  to these soldiers that are to blame for the war in Iraq and never forget that! That being said I am really excited about the prospect of hurling being taken up by anyone outside of the Irish population/diaspora. When I lived in the US, I used to go to a pub on Sunday   mornings to watch the matches live. Americans were always fascinated by the game of hurling and I always felt that the game would have huge potential over there! There are colleges in California  where students are playing  hurling  and the more people that play it the better, it makes the northern half of this country look pretty pathetic in comparison doesn't it?

Just following orders didn't work at Nürnberg.

It's not a black and white issue.

Saddam Hussein was a bad animal.  Selling him weapons in the first place: bad (although it seemed like a good idea at the time since he was standing up to that senile theocratic dictator in Iran who was plunging his country into poverty, superstitious brutal dictatorship and beggary.)

Putting Saddam out of business: good.

Lying about the reasons for taking him out: bad.

Going in with an incompetent Secretary of Defense: bad

Having no plan about what to do when the war was won: bad

A policy of "de baathification" which flung thousands of professional people out of work at a stroke: bad

Private companies, defense contractors, and "security firms" profiteering from the war by charging $60 for doing a load of laundry and getting luxury bullet-proof SUVs paid for by the American taxpayer even though they're not needed: bad

Dismantling the entire legal infrastructure and letting chaos reign: bad

But all of this is irrelevant. These poor lads in the National Guard had no say in the war other than the same voting rights as any other citizens.  And since they joined the National Guard (not the army) it's a good bet the Iraq is the last place they expected to end up.

They just want to play hurling. Leave the politics out of this.
