But he must be making money...otherwise he wouldn't be invloved.

Had a quick look.

Reckon the club paid out just over 500k in dividend last year and he lifted about a third of that, or
185k.

Which you might say is big money.

But when he's got probably 120 million quid tied up in the club, its piss poor. A return of 0.15% a year? That is abysmal.

While it might not fit with the popular narrative, he's not there for the money.

How much did he invest and how much is it worth now?

If he's, as you say, not in it for money, what's he in it for?

He's an absentee landlord.

But key point still stands. Celtic are a mess.. Is there any fan of the club who actually think the club is being run well?

The optimism I had a few weeks back was largely based on getting Osmand, AJ and CCV back for the start of the season, fit and well, and that that we could secure contracts for at least one or two of Saracchi Oxy and Kelechi.

Two of those latter three no longer look like an option so fingers crossed a deal can be reached for Saracchi still, but youde like to think there is some movement in the background we dont know about!

If not then the board really are playing mind games with us...although MON dosent strike me as the kind of pushover that would accept this.

Hes earned legendary status and retaining that would be motivating him more than maintaining a "relationship" with Dermot Desmond!

Its going to be an interesting few weeks.

I was always had a bit of an attitude of be careful what we wish for with getting rid of Desmond and his crew. But the past decade that attitude has changed significantly. What do they actually do to help improve Celtic football club? The investment in players has been a complete joke. I don't think there is a club Celtic's size that spends as little. They've 100million in the bank ffs.

I'm sure someone has a better memory than me but the amount of penny pinching that has ruined signing players is laughable. The McGinn one annd Ivan Toney one stand out. And they're still doing it with players like Saracchi. Offering buttons. I read a lot of reports that Celtic don't get back to transfer targets promptly and then head on somewhere else.

The stadium needs a massive facelift. And what happens at Lennoxtown? God knows. I hear they were penny pinching with that those upgrades too.

The likes of Benfica consistently churn out good players and sell for a heavy profit. Celtic could be so much better but ultimately it seems they are run like a pub team. Time for change.

Desmond in charge has  been awful for Celtic
Stadium is dilapidated , football poor, the only thing they are good at is finding new ways to fleece the support.
Reality is it needs Rangers /Hearts to kick on to make Celtic do anything .

Rangers/Hearts signing players and strengthening while we are putting players on a transfer shortlist. Great

Celtic are on traget atm of doing Celtic things and thats sweet FA. I write the same paragraph every year "Surely Celtic can't be as bad as last year and they will have learnt from their mistakes" and every year they surpass my expectations and gets worse each passing year. I don't care what anyone says but for me our luck will run out eventually and when it does we'll pay dear for it.
TBH i thought about not renewing my season ticket this year but I suppose the last 2 games there gave me the spark again but I just can't understand how they keep getting away with it, we've said this mnay times before that if you performed like this in your day to day job you'd be let go on your first annual review by your manager for being shit at your job yet year on year these pricks get better at being shite and get well paid for it with a massive bonus.
Surely if you're on the Board and you open your eyes and see 1. the Celtic squad 2. the players the huns are buying 3. the players Hearts are buying surely to god that has to make you sit up and think...we could be in a spot of bother here this year if we don't get the finger out.
To not pay £1.5m for Saracchi and try and get him on loan tells you everything you need to know...

I understand Celtic have to live within their means.
But Europe is the big money spinner. Especially the Champions League. There has to be a willingness and gamble to spend to compete there.
Doing well in Europe will earn you real money and attract real players.

- No idea and not going looking

- A question better directed at him. Its not like he's winning popularity contests out of it!

- Yep - as others say later on, stadium a bit of a mess and squad weak. Back in the 90s, Fergus McCann had no money to spend due to the stadium redevelopment, so had to be sensible with it. Now there is a rake of cash in the bank doing nothing. Unless they've some kinda plan for having the club invest that money and "live off the interest" then the end goal certainly isn't clear.

I cannot believe O'Neill didn't ride off into the sunset when he had the chance, Rangers play Dundee United 4 weeks from today in the first game of the season - I hate to say it but I would give them every chance based on what I've seen the last month.

DD might well be an Irish Billionaire who is majority shareholder at Celtic but he invests nothing in the club and what he has teken out on dividends in the last 2 decades well surpasses any money he has ever put into the club. Not sure of the exact amount but it was rumoured that he was worth £2b-£3b so a few million lying at Celtic is pocket change to him, this is the interesting bit for me. Celtic are never gonna make him millions and billions that other investments do and he won't pump any of his own money in to it so what's his agenda?.
He is majority shareholder but does not own Celtic, the rest of the Board let him call the shots like he is the full owner and are all afraid to stand up to him. I just don't get his motive here...I'm actually starting to believe that he's digging his heels in with the Club and the Fans and trying to show them who's boss whilst the Club suffers.
If he has all this money why doesn't he invest in a Celtic Hotel outside the Ground and call in after him for some sort of legacy and he may even make money from it or pump £100m into the club for a new stand or top players but he hasn't done it in 2 decades he's not going to start now.

One other thing I know about the Club is the realationship between the Club staff and the ordinary fan, the Club staff despise the fans. I know there is a few knocking about Celtic who are neds and wee pricks but all clubs have them, Celtic staff just despise the fans and I've been behind the scenes to witness it first hand.

Tbf I'llDecide you are a diehard with your finger on the pulse at CP. Im definitely a bit further removed, but following 55 years now and rarely miss a game even it it just on Celtic TV.

I think we just need to have that wee bit more belief in MON. He isnt there as a nodding dog and I suspect (thats as strong as I will go) that DD will back him (within reason) in his persuit of a dressing room that will that will be good enough for Scotland and give us decent nights in Europe.

There's Alaistair Johnston, Callum Osmand and CCV back from injury, undoubtedly strengthens the team for the season ahead (Jota far away?)board will no doubt view them as 3 new signings!

Problem is Maeda and Engels look like they are on the move, albeit this would generate Circa £40m.

Also theres bound to be quite a few £m saved on the players overall wage bill with quite a few moved on.

Plus add £m from Celtic players World Cup participation. Money coming in from all angles...but no obvious signs yet of a willingness to spend any of it.

Celtic have had to cancel a B challenge game - reserves and U18's against East Kilbride.

Celtic first team in Ireland this week.

Granted a few lads on World Cup duty but that's how bad it is behind the scenes at Celtic. Can't even field two teams.

St. Mirren had to step in and will play the friendly.

O'Neill should just down tools now and leave. Preserve his legacy. Unfortunately he's one of Desmond's pals.
