A steady, regular children's allowance would surely be of more benefit to poor people than a tax deduction?

At least they means-tested, to some extent, the stimulus cheques this time around. I understand why they didn't do it first time out last year, when they just wanted to get money into people's hands quickly without going through the process of weeding out those who make too much, but after that it should have been means-tested. For example, neither myself or my wife lost work or income, and while a bit extra is always welcome, we absolutely did not need to get any stimulus money.

We were in the same boat (well the wife is a sub-teacher but didn't do it that often for us to really feel the effect of not having that income). I was shocked to get the stimulus the first time, as was thinking I haven't lost my job etc, but then someone said to me it's about kick-starting the economy so, in essence, people get money they wouldn't otherwise have and spend it on whatever, which in turns puts money in another businesses pocket, who then spend that money on eg wages, more stock, employ more people, etc, and so on...economics is just one area were I have a very limited grasp of things but that made sense to me but no idea if that's the case

I don't think this stimulation packages is the best use of money. A lot of people working have saved money in this year, because they cannot spend it. They will spend more when they can, but giving them more money will not necessarily cause them to spend it all.

I do a lot of presentations in my work. I like to have notes handy, often in the powerpoint presenter view, just in case I need them, especially when it comes to stuff like figures and stats. I guess that makes me a fraud.
