At least we won. Defending from set-pieces is comically bad though. We look like conceding from nearly every free-kick and corner. Made me wish we held onto Sami for a bit longer. I'm a bit worried that Carra is beginning to slow down. He doesn't seem to have the same spring he once had in getting up for challenges. The Greek pornstar did alright but for a fella who is meant to be commanding in the air he didn't clear enough headers for my liking. Money spent on Johnson looks well justified at this stage. He's been Liverpool's best player so far by miles.

There seems to be a fuss over the second Davis booking but I must say my initial reaction was that it was a booking all day long. Lucas was clean through at the Bolton defence with Torres and Kuyt making runs in front of him and he got taken down from behind. Haven't seen a replay though so I guess it's possible it might just have been legs getting tangled up.

I'm not one for the soccer but have a fleeting interest. Watched the first half and that was enough. Liverpool will win nothing with that team.

Benyoun can't pass the ball. Lucas is only average but scored a good goal. Gerrard appeared to lose interest when his early chance didn't go in and probably wishes he was in London. Carrigher was a great player but is too slow. Jose was right about Johnson, he isn't a top 5/6 league team player. That bald / shaven headed lad at the back is the only decent player Liverpool have, even Torres is too light for the Premier league and Villa defenders minced him in the 1st Half.
Duffer was available to buy cheap in relative terms a few weeks back and if Benetiz had any judgement of players he should have grabbed him.

a fleeting interest?you must have no interest.  have been impressed with johnson so far has added new dimension to attacks down the right.

duff was finished when he left chelsea has lost that yard of pace.. anyone that argues otherwise has their green tinted glasses on

torres is too light for the premier league?are you for real?  he is arguably the best striker in the league, definately top 3 and even die hard tunnel vision supporters of man ure, chelski, arsenal admit to this.  Vidic was the standout defender in a utd team(and league) that kept 11 successive clean sheets in the league last season.  a dominant physical centre half was taken to the cleaners by torres.  possibly with your fleeting interest you never saw this game.

Great to see Lucas giving the referee a helping hand out on Saturday :-\
It was honestly a disgrace
If he would concentrate more on playing football rather than refereeing the game it would suit him batter

Torres went down like he was shot, but in fairness didnt look for a penalty once he glanced around & see the ball was won

Been impressed with Johnson so far

blewuporstuffed

come on Rafa, 5 1/2 hours to go to transfer deadline, surely he doesn't think he can make a title push with the current squad ???
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

Agreed, Lucas looked very poor trying to get a fellow professional sent off and the yellow seemed harsh. Liverpool would never have got 3 points only for being a man up. They look poor so far this season but Johnson looks like a fine buy.

QuoteLiverpool manager Rafa Benitez has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.

The charge relates to comments made to the media after the Reds' 2-1 Premier League loss at Tottenham Hotspur on 16th August.

Benitez criticised the match official immediately following the match at White Hart Lane after he felt his side should have been awarded a second penalty of the game.

The Spanish coach has until 15th September to respond to the charge.

Touch-line ban awaits.

So now that the dust has settled and we have the hand we are dealt with, what are the realistic hopes for the year.

Poor enough start with two loses but to put it in perspective we rarely do well against Spurs, particularly away from home and Villa are potentially one of the stronger teams.  The biggest concern in those two games was the apparent lethergy in the way they played the game.  Before the season I would have said that in the first 5 games 13 points from 15 would be a realistic start with a draw at Spurs.  Presuming a win against Burnley the 9 is not tragic.

Big pluses are Johnson and Insua provide great service going forward.  The Greek porn king looks decent support at CB and he and Carra will be the likely second string defenders once D'Agger and Skertl are fit.  Aurelio will be on the bench at least for the Burnley game and Aquaman is getting closer to full fitness.  I am confident that from keeper to left wing we are well covered with back up.

The big fear is if either Gerard or Torres get any knocks.  Already they are winning games for us with thier contributions and they are not even playing well.  I reckon that another 2-3 games in a row and they will be firing on full steam.  Burnley, CL against Debernecen, away to WH and then the Leeds Carling Cup game.  A good bit of momentum could be gathered there if they avoid injuries in the next few weeks.
