Quote from: Blowitupref on October 06, 2025, 09:27:35 PMArmagh Stefan Campbell has retired from inter-county duty.

The Clan na Gael clubman, who made a huge impact in the county's 2024 All-Ireland success, informed management and players of his decision in recent days, and is one of a number of players to exit alongside the likes of Ciaron O'Hanlon and Ciaran Higgins.

Campbell first joined the panel in 2011 and made his championship debut two years later.
Could be my favourite Armagh player of my lifetime.  I'm sure he didn't want the supersub tag but the buzz that went around the ground when Soupy came on gave supporters and players a lift and he rarely disappointed.  He played the game with a directness and swagger that is seldom seen in the modern game and some of the scores he took were outstanding.  His point into the Davin end in the second half against Kerry in 24 was fantastic. The Galway people around me in the final were dreading him coming on and unfortunately for them they were proved correct.  He never got involved in any of the bullsh1t that happens in games (he didn't need to) and played it in a very sporting manner.

Was hoping that he would give us another year but he owes us nothing. Best of luck in your retirement Soupy and thanks for the memories.
Keep your pecker hard and your powder dry and the world will turn.

Son doing his FE1s at moment
I wake up at 7.40am to a missed call
Was panicking as thought wtf
Rang him back
Dad did you hear soupy retired
Still have a picture of him and my son  from 2014 on the phone .

To others outside the county we always thought he was a maverick who played the game the way it should be played .
He owes Armagh nothing .
Thanks for some fabulous memories .

He will be a big miss

Proved to be a big miss in the All-Ireland Quarter final against Kerry. Looks like a big transitional period ahead for Armagh and next spring likely battle with Monaghan,Roscommon to avoid the drop to Division 2?
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

No word here of Karl O'Connell here yet. What an exceptional career he had - even moreso when you consider he only started GAA for the first time ever, a few months short of his 18th birthday. Quite a remarkable achievement to go from that late start, to winning an All-star, 2 Ulsters, and being one of Monaghan's key men over the past decade.

Thanks to Stefan for the memories, the moments of brilliance and for the commitment. What a player. Literally unstoppable on his day.  Delighted that he walks away with that celtic cross in his pocket.

He obviously has bigger moments in his career, but that winning score v Fermanagh on an oul crappy evening always stands out for me and shows the character of the man.  Never one to shirk responsibility and carried the weight of responsibility.

Here's hoping he has a couple more years in him for the lurgan blues, and perhaps a few more digs at a senior club medal.

He was too dirty a player to be considered a great.

He was as cute as a Fox with the way he got a reaction out of Donal Vaughan to get sent off along with him. Those actions basically won that 2017 All-Ireland final for Dublin and Vaughan was silly enough to react in the manner he did.

100%

I essentially stopped following Mayo football after that

They had a tap over free which would have given them a one point lead changed to a jump ball which they subsequently lost

And then they lost a one man advantage for the remainder of the game

If they couldn't win that game they didn't deserve to win

Farewell CiarĂ¡in.
You were a good one.
I'm guessing Niall Daly will step down also.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.
