I studied in Derry, so I have a soft spot for the place and I reckon this will bring plenty of buzz to the city and a face lift will surely get the heart beat of the city pumping a little bit stronger. This city of culture award has done wonders for Liverpool.

That was the european city of culture and came with additonal funding from the government to host it, this is only the UK city of culture and no extra money grants or funding it winging its way to derry, they'll have to go it alone on the finance.

Aye people seem to be missing that point Delboy, any "regeneration" of Derry will be down to the private sector in the area as there is no government funding. Martys brothers security firm may get a few gigs out of it though..........

Ziggy is the man. Sandinos venue on Foyle St and the wee bar around the corner

The Gweedore is a great spot for music and stout. Live rock covers bands downstairs and the disco bar upstairs you seek will be great craic. Masons just up the hill from the Gweedore is also good for craic agus music
