Quote from: BigBallSmallBall on October 10, 2025, 10:29:59 PMJust home from the JFC Semi Final in Owenbeg tonight Moneymore Vs Doire Trasna. Exciting game of football! But the main talking point is the - Referee lost total control of the game and could have ended very nasty. Think the County Board need to act on this, as the standard of Derry referees has never been as low.

I think that's being harsh, I was also at the game, and I thought that the referee had a good game. Not sure how he can control a Moneymore player running into the entire Doire Trasna team at the end of full time which led to a schmozzle and both teams losing a player.

You'll also find the CEO was sent off for his part in this as well which is why he watched the remainder of the match from behind the net at the Road end.

I'm a neutral and was chatting to multiple neutrals at the game, who totally agreed with my opinion on referees performance. Also was sitting near the tunnel when the "schmozzle" occurred, Doire Trasna midfielder was first man to put his hand on Moneymore player- While 95% of the Moneymore team and management were in the changing room. Then spectators got involved, which would signal to me the referee lost control of the game.

My point being no consistency in referees in Derry at the minute, referee plays 6:23 mins when indicated 4 mins of additional. Definitely 5:00 should have been added, but can't understand how he added 2:23 to the additional 4. Then DT get the goal last kick of the game.

Overall, exciting evening of Football. But definitely better scrutiny needed for referees decisions.

Also about the CEO, he was doing the team talk before extra time started. This was after the sending off's had occurred, so he clearly wasn't sent off. As he wouldn't of been allowed on the field during this time. He was behind the goal the full game, assisting with the GK as far as I could see.

No harm, but that is absolute nonsense. The reason it boiled over after the final whistle is the Moneymore goalkeeper, not the ref, not Trasna, not the tea lady.
Trasna players were in a huddle for probably 30 / 45 seconds when the Moneymore keeper decided to run in through them, first Trasna man was hit a fair dunt in the back. Few Trasna men reacted to this. I've zero skin in this game, but the actions of this have a go hero wasn't wise.
I'd be very surprised if the Trasna red isn't overturned

Brendan

It wasn't Barker sent off according to the Derry journal so maybe that explains why he was there for extra time

Brendan

Turns out the Callum Brown rumour is true this year...

The Brown experiment not overly working

What age is Oisin Duffy and he has him in his back pocket

Good to see a Derry City club in a final.

Have they any chance of winning it?

Would they have a big pick?

Not particularly in the Unionist dominated waterside of the city and soccer obviously being very popular in the town but have a fairly decent minor team some of whom have been key players in that run to the senior final

Derrydan

Magherafelt looked good tonight although inexperience showed also.

They really put the Glen keeper under pressure in the first half and he buckled.

Didnt see it, well is the Mfelf keeper good enough for Derry? He be a big plus with 45 and long range frees?

thebigfullforward

What's happened to Glen? Thought they'd all be in or near their primes still. I suppose making 4 finals in a row and winning 3 of those in a row isn't half bad lol but thought they'd make a real push this year for at least an Ulster

Brendan

Hitting their prime but the 2 clubs to beat them have had some serious underage success recently. Keeps it looking interesting for the next few years with Slaughtneil bringing through 1 or 2 real quality players every year and Lavey on the way back

Had this discussion at the game, fully expect him to get a chance. Thought he was absolutely superb tonight. Even getting involved in shutting down Glens kick out. His 45s had another 10 yards at least on them.

Not sure Rory Kavanagh has brought anything to Glen, I appreciate that Malachy O R is a tough act the follow but defense looks bit shakey now, keeper struggles with Kickouts and forwards game plan seems to be just get the ball to Ethan or Jack. Serious footballers in there so has to be better way of playing for them.
Magherafelt superb team, watched there warm up and standard of speed and fitness is unbelievable. Cormac Murphy is a great ball carrier, holds it up at the right time and goes at teams at the right time and the support runs are always there. Dan Higgins run with Derry has raised his game to another level also, just big honest footballer.
