Cork v Mayo in 1993 (20pts)
5-15 v 0-10

😆

The best laugh of that was that useless Mayo team beat Roscommon 1-05 to 0-07 in the Connacht Final.

Rossfan

Probably the worst Connacht Final ever.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

greatpoint

But would Donegal have beaten Dublin, Kerry, Galway? In the same season?

Quote from: Schkite on July 13, 2025, 05:44:20 PMMost disappointing set of semi finals I can remember for a long time. Can't argue with the teams in the final though, not sure who could say those aren't the two best teams this year. Should be a cracking contest

DnG decent outfit for sure but don't know why they are being so lauded.

Beat 3 x Div 2 teams in Louth, Monaghan and Meath to get to the final.

As handy a set of opponents as there has been in a long time.
Maybe you  staying quiet might be a good idea
I would just remind tyroneman that Kerry also beat a div2 team yesterday and with plenty to spare.

Kerry beat a team that played in Div 1 this year, so put the bolloxology to one side.

They also beat the AI champions.

Tyrone were Div 2 in the AI rankings this year. Kerry had their brilliant 2nd half v Armagh to demonstrate their best. Now they meet the Donegal defence, imo the best in the country.

Agreed - Woeful stuff. Imagine winning a title with 6 scores.

It's was an era that Leitrim should have won a few Connacht senior titles than just one.  Meath will be hoping to repeat what Mayo did after that 20 point All Ireland semi final loss to 1993,  which was recovering to reach the All Ireland final three years later.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Mayo got to a couple of under 21 all Irelands after 93 with the likes of k Mortimer , Ciaran Mac (didn't play 96)  , jimmy nallen etc , even Kevin o neill even though he played 93 Christ he must of been young . My point is we were building a very decent side between 93&96 which seen a fair few personnel changes too from 93 .

Maybe 10 starters in 96 didn't feature in 93 .

The narrative following heavy defeats is far too lenient nowadays , it will take better players for Meath to drive on from this year , the team that got hammered yesterday won't be good enough to get to the same position next year . Other top counties will improve on this season , dubs will improve , my own county have some really exciting talent coming through , Galway will be better next year , Tyrone are going to be serious with the underage stars of last couple of years , Derry i personally think will be a better side next year but again my point is the world won't stand still to let an ordinary Meath team plough on just because they made a semi final in 2025 . It's more likely it was a flash in the pan than a statement of future intent

Walk-in down mchale rd , sun out, summers day , game day . That's all .

Yeah. Hard to know where we really are in the overall standings after yesterday. Felt like a Meath Dublin game from a few years ago. We haven't progressed as much as some would claim but that's not to say progress hasn't been made.

Though there's still a few lads from recent underage success that need to come through but this game doesn't stand still for anyone and there's a lot of work to be done both tactically and physically to close the gap. Hope Robbie has the team primed for Division 1 promotion. Let Leinster take care of itself, just do the minimum and be ready to peak for the All Ireland series.
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

I came across as a bit disrespectful there (hard to avoid when talking of 96 ;D ) there is no doubt it was a good season for Meath , it won't be as easy  as people think though to build on it , not impossible either though of course .

Meath overachieved reaching the semi-final thanks to a perfect storm of a Kerry awful group game putting them through to the Quarters and Galway obviously regressing.

They've still made excellent progress in a year.

This site is full of begrudging twisters who love nothing better than tearing someone/ a team down. Meath have plenty to work with, it's the beginning not the end.  Division 2 will be very interesting next year, I'd expect Tyrone to do a fair bit of experimenting, Derry need to unearth something new to move forward as well, Meath will go up.

highorlow

Would it not be better to judge Meath and their overall progress after the final?

Shur if the Donegal machine bate Kerry by 10+ it would change things.

They get momentum, they go mad, here they go

Meath beat Kerry by 9 and Donegal beat us by 20 so I expect a 29+ victory for Donegal. Purely scientific!  ;)

Did your model account for Tyrone beating us by three and Kerry beating them by six? ;D
