The fact is this stadium will be empty for 360 days a year. That's factoring in a generous 3 sell outs for ulster semis ( as rare as hens teeth) and final.
It's not central enough for all Ireland series neutral games.
It might get 3 concerts year.
Jarlath Burns has been very poor here.

Hard to disagree with any of the above.

Yes, only three potential  sell outs per year , at most.

I can't remember the  format next year , but from this week's  neutral games , the only potential  match Casement might host would  be  Monaghan v Down , or at a  very big push,  Derry v Dublin or Tyrone v Cavan.

Even then, the last two doesn't make much sense

If it was inflated as much as his ego they'd be ready to start in the morning.

You can be sure this would be hosted in a new Casement, to make the economics work if for no other reason. Maybe a double header with one of the other aforementioned fixtures.

Is the GAA gonna throw another 10 million at it, since they been pushing everybody else for money, get a extra £15 from Dublin. There's £75 million, go built the damn thing with the money available and what u can built out of it.

marty34

Surely there must be a cheaper option to build a decent stadium.

How do the lads abroad do it?

Casement Park aside, I think every council area should be adding GAA pitches to their portfolio. Proper full size pitches to cater for the clubs.

With a lot of clubs having 4 codes, pitches are at a premium so ectra pitches would help a lot.

SouthOfThe Bann

In my opinion I think it should be mandatory that an all Ireland quarter be play in both Cork and redeveloped casement rach year.

Even if the logistics don't make sense.

Would be great for both cities.

If only they had heeded that advice a decade or more ago...  ::)

If only the IFA had a little ambition and realised that when they built their stadium that it wouldn't even fit for purpose for any potential tournament, but hey ho.

Let's hope the GAA are a little more ambitious even if it has taken this shambles to get there.
I agree completely that 18k was far too small. But whether or not that is so, they used £26m of their allocation to build the stadium they wanted, within budget and on time (subject to a delay which was not their fault), as did Ulster Rugby for Ravenhill, so neither the government or the taxpayer could complain.

But then, having decided to keep £36m back for Regional stadia, they found that that has been delayed over a decade, with the concomitant loss of value due to inflation etc, while we were forced to wait for Casement to be completed.

And now, when Westminster finds yet more money for Casement, there is no sign of any extra money for Soccer, despite the original 'Maze Money' supposed to be divided equally between the two codes.

Fact is, through absolutely no fault of our own, Soccer has been shafted here - never mind the poor sods stuck on hospital waiting lists, or watching schools crumble round them etc.

Oh great. Another poster who can't understand long term capital spend projects and day to day Governmental spending.
OK, spend the extra money on new schools/hospitals then.

Or maybe get the A5 finally completed - sure didn't Jarlath Burns describe that as a "Gaels road"?

That enough long term infrastructure for ya?

I've posted it on here before, but the GAA's own Event Management Plan, lodged with Belfast City Council, envisages precisely ONE sell-out 34k game a year, the Ulster Senior Final.

And am open to correction, but any year the Final was contested by two teams from the west of Ulster, might there not be pressure to stage it in Clones? (Would save 20% VAT on ticket prices, if nothing else.)

As if you care about the A5. But then I suppose in your world using the money for anything rather than Casement would be great news. Your point on schools and hospitals is old emotive nonsense. Schools and hospitals can put business cases to the Executive if they need resources for capital projects like everyone else.

Talk of it being at less than capacity for 1-3 days a year. Sure that applies to nearly every other ground as well FFS.

100%. Belfast deserves a top class stadium.

Wildweasel74

No point talking about new schools. If money was allocated to one in the morning it's near 7yrs process it takes to built it. If they get rid half the govt processes they do it on half that time. Sone schools took 10yrs to complete from announcement as things stopped process wise, every time the DUP or Sinn Fein brought down local government.
