Quote from: marty34 on April 21, 2025, 08:47:22 PMDo Armagh GAA have a Centre of Excellence?

Are they not building one in portadown?

Off topic but seems a mental location for south Armagh players. Would Armagh itself not be better suited?

I dunno.

Portadown has motorway access from Belfast, plus it is handier got to from Dublin. So it's more accessible for students and young professionals.

In what way is Portadown handy to get to from Dublin? The Newry-Armagh road is as good a single carriageway as you'll get, while the road to Portadown is nothing special. Unless you mean that people are going to training on the train?

Dual carriageway to Banbridge then 20 mins across to Portadown via Gilford.

There's not much in it. But having spent a winter driving my youngster from Newry to that part of the world for Mid Ulster soccer, I'd favour a trip to Portadown over Armagh every time. More ways to get to it, get through it, get around it. Newry to Armagh is the single carriageway from hell followed by junction from hell at the police station.
It would have been better in the GAA stronghold of Markethill. Roughly the geographic centre of Co. Armagh and easily accessible from Armagh, Portadown via Tandragee and Newry/S. Armagh. A popular addition to the area, no doubt.

Ulster GAA seem hopeful that the Brits will be giving them more cash for Casement - well, that's my reading of this article.

Must have had a few positive meetings recently.

Announcement next week on all funding for projects in future.

Having been made to look stupid on several occasions over the whole Casement debacle something tells me they would not have come out with this confidence unless they were getting a good steer in the background.  No doubt if Casement gets the £££ there will be side deal in the background to keep the Unionists happy with something that floats their boat.

Should find out next week on the 11th at the spending review.

Meanwhile I believe Louth turned the first sod on their new Stadium last weekend.

The basic earthworks were already done, so they can horse on now.

And when they're finished , maybe they  could send those horses up the road to  get started on Casement

I think the Louth project is in stages, perhaps that's a model for Casement. Get a covered stand on one side and something elsewhere n the ground, to get the door open.

I hear the Brits have stomped up the cash, it will be released in such a way that it will not send the bitter, catholic hating, sectarian, racist, twisted brethren into a meltdown.

How the feck will they manage that? Buy a few million pallets for them?

The GAA going to Westminster yesterday based on an invite from the Alliance party was an unusual situation to say the least. Either it was a big PR window dressing opportunity for Alliance and a complete waste of time or there has been a deal done and this was part of the process. I sincerely hope its the later.

This project is an absolute embarrassment for Stormont and its merry band of bigots who see it as their job to halt progress at every step. It's shameful and history will not be kind to them.

Looking to next week with hope but not a lot of confidence of the right decision being made.

You'd imagine the Ulster Council will still find a way to f**k it up.

It was a bit cringe looking alright with alot of old men in a white tent on the lawns of Westminster. Why lower yourself to go begging like that.
