Turning Point: The Vietnam War on Netflix.  It's decent.  A solid 8/10, but it really isnt much of what we havent seen before. I preferred the Ken Burns 10 part series that was out a few years ago.

I had hoped for more of a Vietnamese focus, and more specifics about the actual war and battles etc. Sometimes I feel these docs go too far into what effect the war was having on society in USA, while completely skipping over the specifics of what was going on in the actual conflict in late 60s and early 70s.

Very true.
Has anyone seen anything pertaining to the break up of India and in particular the division of Pakistan?
There's never been much said about the conflict between these two countries and yet it has to have the potential of a Nuclear war.
They really do not get on.

Hard to beat Ken Burns in fairness but it is trying to give a different view on things a bit, think I've another one or two to watch so no spoilers lol
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Andor season 2 is absolutely brilliant.

Spoiler Alert !!!   There's a 'gripping' roof top helicopter scene at the end.

I'd agree on the benefit of having the perspective of differing viewpoints.  Two other excellent tv docs series. both on You Tube in their entirety,
Canadian tv  Vietnam - the ten thousand day war
and PBS -   Vietnam -  a televised history.

Is there a French version and an Vietnamese north south version of the war?

The Americans must look back at that period (like they do with everything ffs) and say why the hell did we actually do this? Its bonkers to think that I was 3 years old when the war stopped

Quote from: lurganblue on May 03, 2025, 11:56:50 PMMobland is actually very good. Hopefully it continues like that.

Don't know what Brosnan is trying to do with that accent.
His voice is the one negative of the show for me. The grandson must be one of the most punchable characters ever.

😁.. Agree on both. Brosnan is like a Steve Coogan inspired character. Must say I've been really enjoying the last couple of episodes with the drama building very quickly

Solo_run

Finding Helen Mirren's character/accent the most annoying thing about this show. Pierce Brosnan's accent isn't great but at least his character is well played

I don't know about Vietnamese dramas, but there should be a load of French dramas. The Quiet American based on a Graham Greene novel, not quite French but..
A film I have seen is the 317th Platoon, set in the last days of the French Indochina war, it's classic French black&white.

Mobland is the best show I've watched in a longtime. Conrad is pure Cork, accent is fine. Has Tom Hardy got prosthetics? He's more like Joe Bugner than his regular stud muffin looks.

I think the whole thing is pure muck but it's entertaining so I'll keep watching.

It's like the TV show equivalent of a B movie. I still enjoy it though.

A B movie is a good call. I like most of the characters but Brosnan, Mirren and the fella playing Richie are just pure East End mobster clichés with 2 out of 3 having terrible accents.
