Quote from: Armagh18 on May 07, 2025, 04:36:46 PMCork camogie star Ashling Thompson says the Rebels are prepared to risk Saturday's Munster final being abandoned, as they will refuse to wear skorts for the decider against Waterford

"If [wearing shorts] means abandoning the gamea and handing over the Munster title to Waterford, that's what we'll do," Thompson told RTÉ on Wednesday.

"We're just hoping that Waterford will follow suit. It's not about us vs. the association - it's standing up for what's right."

The GPA revealed recently that 83% of camogie players want a choice between wearing skorts or shorts. With little sign of change, Dublin and Kilkenny protested ahead of last weekend's Leinster final by emerging in shorts. They were threatened with the game being abandoned before changing into skorts

All-Ireland champions Cork face Waterford in the Munster camogie final on Saturday, with throw-in at 1pm at the Ragg in Tipperary
Call her bluff. Rules is rules. If she wants the rules changed she knows how.

Don't be silly.

I guarantee you'll see a protest at every club and county game in Ireland in the next few weeks.

Yet to see one decent argument for not allowing players the choice.

You're a blast from the past  ;D

Is this an emotive issue for all you lads on here?

Armagh18

Waterford to stand with Cork. Fair play.

RedHand88

Is there anything the Camogie association can do though? It was voted down last year if I read right? And can't be debated again until 2027?
Where does this end?

Taylor

Special Congress has been called for 22nd May to vote on a motion so the resolution is in sight

How many people play camogie? 1,000? 2,000? Probably the easiest sport on the planet to get rules changed in. Less drama, more organisation please

There's multiples of those numbers playing camogie FFS.

O'Neills better get their sowing machines ready for the huge demand in shorts then.

My bet is that its auld biddies who played camogie in pinafores in the 70s and now sit in key roles. The voice of the current and modern day camogie player is far more important.

I don't think the blazers have a strong opinion. I'm old enough to remember last year when this was voted on. This is the GPA throwing their weight around again.

Right so. 4,000.

But the point remains, Camogie joins the GPA and suddenly intercounty players are making threats rather than simply getting the rule changed by a very simple process. It's very tedious

Captain Scarlet

It's like the coin toss in 2015! Sure it was voted on and agreed and then when it came to pass all of a sudden I was listening to the likes of my boss giving out about the men in the GAA not caring...

All over social media there was war and column inches, radio slots being filled. Then I'd say 200 turned up for the game to support the women.

It's a joke, but there are processes in all Gaelic Games to go through. The Players tend not to be arsed with how everything actually works until they are affected.

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

I strongly suspect a GPA muscle flex is at the heart of this. This literally came from nowhere.

It didn't come from nowhere or there wouldn't have been two separate motions about it at the 2024 congress.

Neither got voted through, but that's democracy for you, you don't always get what you want.

As a man with two daughters who play camogie, I'm indifferent to the outcome of it, but they both would prefer shorts.

There's bigger and more important hills for Aisling and the GPA to die on, but that's the one they've chosen.
