Mayo 3-9 Sligo 0-5 Atrocious 1st half from Sligo lacking in any work rate. Mayo are not that good which tells you what we are like.

A draw or win puts us in semi.
A draw or Rhubarb win puts them in the Final while Sligo need to win to make the Final.

Sligo 2-16 Mayo 5-22 FT, high tempo entertaining match with lots of good football on display. Seemed to be a huge wind towards the scoreboard which affected us badly in first half, we had loads of possession and plenty of chances just curtailed and Mayo blitzed in a 5 min spell late in 1st half. Then Mayo started stronger 2nd half but credit to Sligo I think we scored 9pts in a row to bring it back but Mayo kicked on again. This is a very good Mayo team because we are no joke. Some excellent prospects for Sligo in Tommy Ross, Niland, Walsh etc.. Mayo exploited where we were weak and thats what good teams, they have some serious running power and energy.

Sligo v Roscommon in semi final at Neutral venue. I think it will be tighter than the first day but Roscommon would be favourites.

Must be a record set tonight by the Laythrums....8 changes to the team named on the programme.....
Their no.11 Jack Kelly looked useful.
But overall a game that will do neither side any good.

I have seen Jack Kelly many times now and he looks a serious prospect. Excellent ball striker and finisher and sharp on the turn. It must be tough developing within a set up that loses so many players to senior. They didn't really have a choice tonight imo.

How are the Rossies feeling about Sligo u-20 match after the round 2 win?

With a game and final to play Mayo have pretty much showed why they are hot favourties to win this Connacht U20 championship.  Quality of forwards coming through is good news for the Seniors in the years ahead with Darragh Beirne,Niall Hurley,Tom Lydon on this U20 team and Kobe who should be playing with the U20s next year.

Galway with the pick of 11 of their starting U17 All Ireland winning from 2022 not even reaching the semi final the biggest surprise of this Connacht championship

With such a rushed championship it leaves Sligo or Roscommon with uphill challenge to be competitive in the final as it will be their 4 games in consecutive weeks while Mayo have a two week break to prepare for the final.

Unfortunately the players missing were also arguably the best players on that team.

The semi final is a one off game and the earlier round game will be irrelevant.
All to play for but as I said a month ago the Rhus roaring favourites and well the best team in it.

Galway U20s was still be expected to reach the semi-final at least. Should also note Galway U17s in 2023 topped the group in the Connacht championship.

Very disappointing campaign.
They had opportunities to get a result in all 3 games vs Mayo, Sligo and Ros. They're not a bad side but just didn't click into gear unfortunately.

Re the minor.... Galway playing Mayo on Friday. It's already decided they play each other again the following week in the semi final.
I assume the team that finishes second gets home advantage for the semi?

Rossfan

It used to be the reverse of the round robin game.
Now I'm told the u20s are neutral venues.
