I assume the team that finishes second gets home advantage for the semi?
Regardless of the result on Fri evening, the semi final is already fixed for Castlebar the following week I believe.

Quote from: Rossfan on April 17, 2025, 08:57:22 AMIt used to be the reverse of the round robin game.
Now I'm told the u20s are neutral venues.
Yeah the u20 semi last year between Galway and Sligo was in Castlebar. Strange. You'd think the higher placed team should get the home advantage.

Can understand neutral or reverse of previous games when a straight knock out format though I think for a group format 1st should get home advantage and likewise 2nd for the semi final.

U17 games tomorrow are two dead rubbers so all four teams I can imagine will be giving game time to those who haven't featured thus far.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Rossfan

Giving the higher placed team home advantage would reduce the "dead rubberness" of the last round and would be a reward for performances during the league phase.

From the Connacht GAA

QuotePlease note the Sligo v Leitrim U17 game also doubles up as the Shield Final for this competition.

Could have done the same with Mayo v Galway and make it the semi final than playing each other again next week.

Quote from: Cunny Funt on April 16, 2025, 10:46:55 PMWith a game and final to play Mayo have pretty much showed why they are hot favourties to win this Connacht U20 championship.  Quality of forwards coming through is good news for the Seniors in the years ahead with Darragh Beirne,Niall Hurley,Tom Lydon on this U20 team and Kobe who should be playing with the U20s next year.

Galway with the pick of 11 of their starting U17 All Ireland winning from 2022 not even reaching the semi final the biggest surprise of this Connacht championship

With such a rushed championship it leaves Sligo or Roscommon with uphill challenge to be competitive in the final as it will be their 4 games in consecutive weeks while Mayo have a two week break to prepare for the final.

Kobe will be down under unfortunately
Walk-in down mchale rd , sun out, summers day , game day . That's all .

Odd choice of venue but once the Connacht GAA had neutral venues in place for the U20 championship I suppose it was going to be a matter of time that they would choose the Connacht GAA centre for a knock out game.

What happened to the big covered pitch in Bekan after the storm?

Is it currently being repaired?

Galway played Mayo in Bekan in an u20 knock out game in 2022 as well.

Hoping to have new dome up by October/November was the last I heard.

Was that not deemed as a home game for Mayo at the time?

Yeah I imagine the fact that they had no game last week was a factor in them going with a strong lineup.
Otherwise they'd be going in next week with a good few lads not having played in three weeks.
It doesn't bode well though for next week as Mayo made 13 changes today from last week.
