Watched episode 1, my god what a show.

Episode 1 was up there with the best piece of TV I have ever watched.

The story is gripping, but the way its shot with over an hour of television across multiple locations being one continuous shot really makes it feel like you are there. Must have been a nightmare to make. You'd hate to be the actor who flubs lines.

Captain Scarlet

Adolescence is amazing. Even the technical side of moving from a crane camera to steadicam in the opening scenes.

The acting is all top quality and it's something of a wake-up.call too.

Went to a match yesterday with my mate who has 3 lads under 12 and he said him and his missus were shaken after it. Just making parents think about all that manosphere stuff is v v important.

It'd be no harm showing it in schools.
them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

And apparently the wee young lad isn't even a trained actor! He was brilliant!

*****Spoiler Alert******

The long scene with him and the child psychologist was unreal viewing, gripping stuff altogether and pretty thought provoking.

The final episode centered around the parents questioning everything they did or didn't do in raising their kid.
as well as internet access, those fake masculine types like the Tates etc and the impact it could have on some kids.

You dismiss this shít at your peril if you're a parent.

******* Spoiler Alert Ends******

I don't normally agree with spoiler alerts. But this time with the first episode only airing 5 days ago, surely a spoiler alert has to be necessary.
Never underestimate the power of complaining

It's on Netflix for a while not, but noted.

Watched episode 1, my god what a show.

looking forward to watching this. Stephen Graham is brilliant. Speaking of, rewatched the walk in over the weekend. Another Stephen Graham show based on Matthew Collins, Hope not Hate and taking down National Action. Very very good

Have watched the first two episodes of Adolescence. Stunning and horrifying. Only thing wrong with it for me is that I can't buy Top Boy's Dushane as the cop!

When watching it, what immediately came back to me was the Ana Kriegel case, although I'm embarrassed to say that I couldn't remember her name, and I couldn't remember the details. I knew it was particularly awful but reading up on it again it really hit home how real this shit is. It makes for terrific TV, but it's a very real threat to our young people. No doubt some dickheads somewhere will shout it down as "woke" or whatever, but they can't be allowed to win. The Andrew Tates and the McGregors of the world need to be hung out to dry.

Watched the first 2 episodes of Adolescence last night.
It just feels real - absolutely gripping stuff.
I have to admit, I pretty much ignore the Andrew Tates of the world and don't give them a second thought. I don't really pay much attention to Insta etc either, but I think I need to educate myself a bit more having watched this.
Kids have so much influencing them out there now its scary. When I was growing up, it was parents, maybe cousins and who ever you were friends with in school that were you influencers. It's a different world now.

Milltown Row2

It was a small window into a society that thankfully I didn't grow up in and lucky my kids have come through the other side relatively unscathed, my son was old enough that the Tates and McGregors of this world wouldn't have been about nor able to influence him.

A few things that struck me was the school environment, now I'm sure there not all schools come across like that but they deliberately show the teacher coming in late, lessons being shown by video, disrespect to teachers, I thought I went to a tough aul school, I came through with no issues, and while I seen bullying and lord knows how they managed, I think now with social media, everyone gets a touch, whereas in my day it was limited to a few unfortunately.

And this coming from someone that lived in a war zone for many years  ;D

The pain etched in their faces in that final episode was hard work to watch, very few families ever survive something like that..

I'm not sure some shows like this are good to watch depending on your mental state, I can imagine people who watch something like that would have heighten their worst fears and create more anxiety
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Another one to lump some praise on Adolescence. It's a powerful show in so many ways. The theme is horrific and real.  The acting is superb.  How it is shot, is stunning. Not more you can ask for really in a 4 part tv series IMO.  I have heard a few people say that they didnt like it.  I'm not 100% sure why.  I think they were perhaps hoping for a different outcome?

I have a son around that age. It really makes you stop and think about their lives, and their world.

Agree on the school image portrayed too. Obviously they were perhaps exaggerating aspects, but I have no doubt that in many local schools it is closer to crowd control than education at times.

Finished Adolescence last night. Powerful stuff altogether.
Its well thought out and the way its filmed gives it that sense of reality.
That final scene was heartbreaking because its so easy to empathise with the parents. Interesting that the parents of the murdered child are never introduced, but I guess the point was to show it from the perspective of the innocent family of the young lad.

Highly recommend.
I let my 12 year twin boys watch, they're almost 13 and whilst some of the themes went over their head they got the gist.

I clicked into one tweet yesterday where someone was giving off the the main character is white and not black which they stated was more stereotypical of this sort of crime (I didn't bother looking up stats to verify).
Now today, I am bombarded with tweet after tweet saying the same thing. It is mental to me that this is some people's takeaway from this show. As someone with a young son (too young for this craic yet), it scares me that I'm gonna have to work through all this with him at some stage.
You can't say to them, right you're not watching videos by Andrew Tate anymore, because they will always find a way. Parents can't shut out the outside world the way they could have when I was growing up. They need to get children to make the decision themselves and see this nonsense for what it is.
