Take the Mark

This may well be the first time in many many years where the Ulster League is useful for something. Gives teams a chance to play under the rules, no seminars or powerpoint presentations are as useful as that.

SaffronSports

Corrigan or nowhere. Great to see the players and management standing up for themselves. Hope they stand by it.

Cnoc Bán

Yes, I agree.

Take a stand and don't let them think they can walk over us, just because we aren't perceived as being one of the big name counties.

In fairness to Ulster Council they want to let as many people watch the game as possible, that has always been their priority and conveniently that will see their income increase also.

That all said, if Antrim were pulled out of the hat first and want the game at home (despite the venue being inadequate) then that's where it should be. The Casement issue is not the fault of Antrim and their home venue is their home venue so that's where it should be played!

InnocentByStander

Realistically they would be better pulling out of the game.

Would save them from the embarrassment.

EOC1923

Fair play to the players, the venue situation is not their fault,
Meanwhile highly paid people still within Antrim along with the Ulster GAA officials who have constantly let us down over Casement sit quietly in the background with Gordon Lyons now taking the heat for them.

Spiderlegs

I'm Armagh but totally understand the Antrim managers/players stance and would back them on it given their reasons.

What would Antrim football have season ticket wise? Couldn't be much.
Typically season ticket holders get priority, and if that were to happen it becomes a massive outnumbering of Armagh fans on the day ...at an Antrim home venue!!

Or would Antrim be guaranteed half the tickets?

Will be fun watching the Ulster Council and GAA squirm around on this one.

Time to borrow the Twaddell Caravan for the protest. Great to see from the players, and hopefully if it does get to Corrigan the supporters respond.

The Antrim supporters? Depending on how this goes, they may not be able to get any more than a few hundred at this game.

Well def need the caravan then. it can't be a serious suggestion that away fans are given pref over home, the season ticket guarantee should only apply if the match is at home or if capacity.

Ulster GAA havent learned their lesson from 2 years ago if you recall the championship quarter final draw saga v Cavan:

ANTRIM footballers received a major boost last night after Ulster GAA chiefs reversed a decision to move their Championship opener against Cavan out of Corrigan Park.

Cavan's request to have the game moved away from the Belfast venue due to its limited capacity of 3,700 was rubber stamped by an Ulster Council vote last week.

But the decision was reversed at a meeting last night after a major outcry over the past week.

In a statement, Ulster GAA said: "Following a site visit this week by relevant stakeholders, including statutory authorities, a number of measures which will enhance the health and safety arrangements at Corrigan Park were agreed."

Stick to our guns, regardless of whether we have a hope in hell or not. Set an example to the current and future players that the County should never roll over.

Unpopular opinion, but I'm leaning towards Ulster GAA on this. Corrigan Park is not fit for purpose for an Ulster Championship match. Antrim have the opportunity to host the game, it is up to them to find a venue suitable.
This isn't like the Newbridge debacle a few years back which was an obvious cash grab.

Antrim had a venue suitable to host it and were told to hand the keys over to the Ulster Council. That project failed. If it's not Corrigan, take it to Ahoghill. Feck Ulster.

Sure why not take it to Ballycastle?

So your stating players currently and a few of my own relatives should give up going to training 3/4 nights during the week, away from their wives and young kids? A few of which are Cargin men... Getting to the stage now Antrim should just pick the best starting 15 out of Cargin and Creggan. Nothing really else outside them two teams... bar a few soccer players.
