He's a year older than Shane Walsh - which goes to show you how much football he has played.

Rob Hennelly who made his competitive debut for Mayo 13 years ago has announced his retirement from Senior Inter County football. He won 7 Connacht senior football titles with Mayo (2009,2011,2012,2014,2015,2020,2021) Two NFL Div 1 titles in 2019,2023 and nominated twice for All Star awards in 2013,2021,  He scored 0-38 in the Mayo jersey.

Cillian na n-uillin géara has left the Rhubarb squad.

Kevin McStay in a media briefing tonight when asked about the reason behind O'Connor's decision.

"I'm not going to go into personal detail because obviously I have huge respect for Cillian, but what I would say is, guys take breaks every now and then,"
"It's been happening with every county team in Ireland where people step away for work or for personal reasons.
"In Cillian's case, as you know he was a double minor and I think he did 14 years with Mayo [seniors], so that's 16 years. And he's 32, now, that's half his life.
"So obviously I'm going to respect whatever his decision is and I will say that in discussions I had, and I don't mind saying this, I would have strongly encouraged him not to retire if that's the way he was feeling. To give himself the option.
"Who am I to say? I would never put an end to a guy's ambition to play for Mayo, any of them."

McStay was secretly happy to cut him loose, judging by that. But he can't let on.

Even though McStay agreed a 4 year term it won't surprise me if this year (his 3rd year) as Mayo manager is his last.

The top level is senior intercounty. At that level he was consistently outstanding.
