I know someone that runs a popular establishment in the cathedral quarter. Prime location, plenty of footfall etc. £200k pm turnover - I'll eat my hat if any of you can guess what % profit it makes.

Would need to be 1% then as breaking even is living from paycheque to paycheque and not a good model.

In the main (back in the day) 5% was seen as the norm

4% on a good month. It may be the norm but it's barely worth it and this is one of the more popular bars. Place is packed every weekend and busy midweek. They always up their prices and are charging £6+ for a pint. That's before you get into all the shit that comes with running a bar

Would well believe it. Rent/rates/power costs are extortionate.

In Helsinki. Just paid 11.90 for a pint in the hotel bar. She poured it out of a can! I'm never complaining again.

As much as I'd like to go, Scandinavian countries are fairly hefty on the pints

Wild prices for the likes of Laverys and The Errigle who are well outside the Cathedral Quarter where higher prices are understandable due to tourist footfall.

snoopdog

Belfasts more expensive than Dublin for a pint. If you ignore that temple bar kip.

Prices in city are a joke. Saying that, nearest pubs to work (American) and house (Red Devil, Beehive, Rock) are all reasonably priced. Greedy fucks in Belfast led by that whining dose Colin Neill are doing long-term damage to their own  businesses by driving people away. Place is like a ghost town Sunday-Thursday after 6pm.

You'll get cheaper pints in O'Dees' Pigeon club in Iveagh street and round in the hospital club in the Royal..

Most publicans in Belfast want to keep the price of a pint down as low as possible for as long as possible, to try and encourage as many punters into their establishments as possible. Some places are extortionate but this is more to discourage certain clientele.

Diageo have made multiple price increases in the last lock of years. Guinness is off the charts in terms of popularity right now. Obviously the price increase will be passed on to the customer. Dublin enjoys 13.5% VAT hence the argument that it's cheaper than Belfast.
