Quote from: Sheedy on October 13, 2024, 10:16:56 PMGreece definitely better team in the first half but Ireland much improved in second and with bit more composure we could have got an equaliser. A defeat but a performance to build on.

That sounds like Stephen Kenny-speak TBH. We had a lot of 'performances to build on' during his reign.

Don't watch a whole pile of Ireland but watched that last night.

First 50 minutes Ireland may have been considered unlucky with the deflected goal, but it was coming due to the utter dominance of Greece, who are a good team as England found it.

Yes, the fresh legs in midfield did make a difference and Ireland actually started to play a lot better and had the better of possession etc etc, but you just couldn't see Ireland score other than from a corner or set play with a ball lumped into the box.
Creativity is still an issue but they at least competed which is progress.

Ireland come third in group for U21s after 1-1 draw away to Italy. Lose out in head to head to Norway for a playoff. The last minute equaliser on Friday has proved very costly, although some other poor results contributed.

Carsley stitched himself up with his idiotic comments this week that and his idiotic line up against Greece. Don't feel sorry for him as he played his part in fiddling around over the Ireland job

The unseen shirt pull for the Norway goal proved costly. Thems the breaks!

Some in the English media taking it well.

Heard Harry Redknapp, Pearce and Big Sam(once he started talking I turned over) all giving off that is wasn't an Englishman.  Redknapp put forward nephew Frank and Gerrard as an alternative.

Tuchel has some experience of winning but while decent in the media seems to have caused a fair bit of chaos behind the scenes at Chelsea and Bayern.  Likes to play front foot football which you would think would suit their players, but the Greece game showed their frailties at the back and in goal and why Southgate in the main played a more defensive style that was continually criticised.

Maybe it'll be like when Tony Pulis left Stoke and then people realised they were shite unless they played really defensively...

Really left field appointment this. It'll be very interesting to see how he gets on. I'm a wee bit looking forward to it and a wee bit scared  ;D

I heard on the news Tyrone's Conor Bradley saying how proud he was to captain NI. How much are they paying you to say that Conor? Maybe they should get the Ulster banners up in Aghyaran.

Great goal there by Katie McCabe to put Ireland women 3-0 up in the playoff against Georgia. You'd miss George Hamilton on the commentary.
