Quote from: Snapchap on June 25, 2024, 01:04:30 PMAlmost spat out my coffee when I heard Joe today critising Mayo for not committing tactical fouls to see their last two games out in the dying moments. In case you're wondering: Yes, that is the same Joe Brolly who was so offended by tactical foulsing that he said Sean Cavanagh was not even a man for having committed one.
Aw stop! Some hypocrite

That occurred to me as well! He's a walking contradiction partly truth, and partly fiction taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home.
Though I don't find his podcasts in the least bit offensive as others seem to...

Not sure I've read any posts that I'd put in the "offended" category. I don't find Joe offensive. I find him ridiculous.

I didn't say you do, I said 'others'...

Quote from: maldini on June 25, 2024, 08:01:24 AMBrolly starts the podcast this week by mocking Dion saying it's a soccer thing making it all about the manager, when they're talking about Derry beating Mayo

Dion rightly says that he's been making it all about Harte since day 1, Brolly waffles some answer about tactics not answering the question.

Remember he said continually in the autumn and winter that he wouldn't be going to any Derry matches when that c***ts in charge, in between crying that we all have to be more kind to everyone

He's like a broken record and Harte has probably got more support as a result of Brolly's incessant abuse. I'd have more sympathy for him now than I had when he decided to jump ship and take that job to begin with as no man deserves that level of vitriol. If he won the All Ireland with Derry and roared into the mike at Brolly in Kieran Donaghy style, I think a lot of people would take great pleasure in hearing that.
Joe the narcissist would just love a mention of his great self at such a time and revel in the attention similar to when Donaghy at the peak  of his sporting achievements in the most public of situations was thinking of Joe Brolly. As it stands now I hope Derry can go all the way but  should it transpire I'd  hope the creep will be totally ignored.

Joe would turn it around saying that he knew Derry needed that something extra this year, so he only said all these things to help create that siege mentality that would get them over the line. It would of course be a genius move from Joe, and the all-ireland would be all down to him

He would also wait until after they'd have won the All-Ireland to let us know that he actually predicted months previously that they would win it, in a text conversation with <insert big name county star>.

Or it's all a big con and the big name is actually Micky Harte...

They've been doing it all along to get Tyrone ones to support Derry.

Truthsayer

I don't know anyone in Tyrone supporting Derry because of Brolly. Only place I even hear it said is on this board.
Just listened to latest podcast and Brolly very obviously wants Derry to win. Harte was barely mentioned except when Dion brought him up. Was a poor analysis. Was like its the only game on this weekend: and very much underestimating a Kerry team won the All Ireland two years ago and lost final last year due to a bad pass out of defence being intercepted.

imtommygunn

I do think Derry could well be on the end of a bit of defeat to Kerry (hope I'm wrong) but your latter point on Kerry wouldn't be my take on it. Dublin steamrolled them towards the end and outscored them 7-2 or something.

Dublin did to Kerry what Kerry did to Derry and put the squeeze on with a number of very strong substitutions when it came to the last 10ish minutes. It becomes a different game last 10 - 15 minutes against Kerry / Dublin because they press you and they bring on strong subs. I don't really think Derry were that close to Kerry last year when it came to the important bit and Dublin kind of did that to Kerry...

Anyway back to topic - Brolly is a tool and if Derry win he can say nothing about Harte or if they lose then he will go back to being the devil incarnate. Win win.

Truthsayer

While I don't disagree with Brolly's opinión of Harte it has got very repetitive. Obviously Harte is living in his head. Would like to see Brolly get into other subjects again. Is plenty more to talk about. Just talked bout Derry,  didn't even mention any of the other quarter-finals while he was on the subject today.

imtommygunn

I can't bring myself to listen to him. I read Joe Diver's article in the Irish News today and it talked about the kind of extreme personality of when you love someone you really love them and when you hate them you really hate them. That's how Brolly is with Harte. He was the same on TV and that's why he was put off it.

RTÉ put them all off to santise it... Spillane, O'Rourke and the controversial straight talking soccer guys. They'll have to dump McClean next.
Gaelic games analysis now is like watching paint dry.. Cavanagh and Cora and Fitzmaurice and them.

McBennett is the reason for that. When he took over the sports department in RTE that was the end of it.
He has completely watered it down.
The RTE soccer pundits as well are just plain boring these days.
He has a lot to answer for imo.
