Quote from: ck on June 13, 2024, 04:24:06 PMI don't listen to that Stephen Nolan guy on BBC cos he's a narcissistic wind up merchant who is very loose with the truth and likes to engage in hatred. A horrible human being who only has one core interest, himself. A man to be pitied.

Exactly same as Brolly.
Nolan and Brolly are definitely in the " ignore completely " category for me

Quote from: Norm-Peterson on June 13, 2024, 04:48:05 PMBrolly said that he went to the 1986 All Ireland final and had his face painted. He said that he went because neighbouring counties support eachother. The truth is that he went because his mother was from Tyrone, he never mentions his Tyrone connections.

Agreed I'd say that's what had him there though he has mentioned in podcasts about his mother being from Brackaville. Also mentioned his grandmother from there in earlier podcast bout the Troubles.

From the Bunker

In fairness as a Mayo man, I always support Galway............. in Hurling!  ;D

From the Bunker

In 1998 Galway Captain Ray Silke brought the Sam Maguire into St. Geralds College in Castlebar, a Boys Secondary School. Ray was a member of staff at the School at the time.  He later talked about how many how many of the Staff looked awkwardly at the trophy in the Staff room. Many walked in, done their bits and pieces and walked out hurriedly.Strangely Silke took great Umbridge at this. Silke was either very innocent or very bold in doing this a the time. Imagine this happening in Cork or Kerry, in Tyrone or Armagh.

Wildweasel74

My Mum was from Tyrone. I try to forget about that too!

ONeill

The funniest thing would be if Derry revive in some way this season.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

maldini

I got the impression when listening to the podcast that Brolly was doing his best to turn the Derry players completely on Harte

If they lose on Saturday he'll be happy, Harte gone and him proven right

Would the goings on in Derry football be of any interest to the vast majority of Freestate listeners (never mind Dion Fanning who has zero interest in gaelic games) ? GAA / sports podcasts wouldnt give us anywhere near as much attention... It's strange behaviour on a few levels

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on June 13, 2024, 12:11:22 AMSomething send me a screenshot of a report he done in the paper there, noting Derry hadn't a man send off in 4yrs before Harte took over. He obviously didn't go to many Derry games,as we 2 off against Galway in the league 2022 in Owenbeg.
And mcguigan the game before that - that said, in general the lack of  discipline the last two games has been a damning inditement of Harte's reign imo.

Maybe, but why did it take from 5 months, 14+ games before we had our first man sent off under the current management?

Because it took a while for players to get to know the management boundaries etc?
I know there's been the regrettable odd incident like the gouging, but one of the things I'd really admired about this team was their discipline, accepting referee decisions, supporting each other, not bickering with each other, the Galway game was the first time I'd noted that sort of nonsense in 3 or 4 years, the Armagh game was even worse.

Quote from: Truthsayer on June 13, 2024, 12:14:03 PMWhile I believe Harte is out of his depth and a disaster for Derry, much of Joe's rant was not researched or indeed factual. The best was that Tyrone and Derry supporters totally get behind each others county at the later stages of the championship when their own team has exited. Maybe true in '93 as he cited but not now. No way!

Ffs, some mad hoors about

So, let
Not so mad!... explain why Harte didn't beat Kerry, Dublin or Mayo in the championship 2009 to 2020 (2021 new management won Sam) or why Dublin obliterated Louth last year but with Ger Brennan they put up a respectable show against the Dubs. Harte is not up to that top level coaching, has got left well behind. He was pre-2010 or so... thems the facts. Derry are in freefall .. no?!
I'd agree with most of that and a number of us on here said as much last September, for me it wasn't about who he was and what he represented in terms of tyrone, I couldn't give a f**k about that if he managed to maintain the momentum we had until then. It was his track record over the past decade that concerned me, he's deservedly renowned as a legendary manager, but legends are best left in the past where they aren't subject to scrutiny that will undermine them.

Boundaries etc... Are we talking about 1st years at the big school here? And what has them bickering with each other and not supporting each other in your opinion?

Brolly used to be good to listen to, now he's a sad twisted man.

This is the man who went for the St Brigids job and got laughed outta town.

Yes, cos in Brollys head the Derry players care what Joe thinks. In Brollys head, his opinion matters.
The fact is that players from all counties (especially Derry) see Brolly as a high profile spoofer who is not to be taken seriously and whos opinions matter not one jot!

LC

Listened to both episodes and while no doubt the MH project now has its issues there was no need for what was a personal hatchet job.

Suffice to say if a public figure lampooned JB on a podcast or in any sort of media the Solicitors letter would not be far away.

Solicitor's letter? On what basis? Conor Moore has lampooned Brolly 🤷
