If Carrick can qualify out of the group for CL and remain in contention for top 4 then I think they will wait on Pocchetino. Despite the media reports I don't believe for one second that he will walk out on PSG at this stage when he looks a shoe in to win his first meaningful trophy as manager and contend for the CL. And lets be honest he would be mad to do so.

It's a gamble if it goes badly wrong with Carrick but then that will apply to any interim manager who will be seen to have reduced authority which creates its own problems. The solution was obvious after the Liverpool defeat when Conte issued a come and get me plea but the Man United board do not want a strong man type figure, they want a company man so that they can still retain control.

I don't see them going with Carrick for the rest of the season. They are looking at 4 or 5 potential temporary mangers if Pochettino doesn't happen now, including Valverde https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/arid-40751127.html

Strong words from Scholes on bt sport, basically saying Oles back up team shouldve walked/been pushed and should be embarrassed to still be there...bit awkward youd imagine the next convo with old teammate Carrick among others...

Carrick for the permanent job. He has transformed United in one game.

Into the knock-out stages with a game to spare thanks in no small part to Ronaldo.

A good 2nd half performance and played best once the subs was made. Good pressing by Fred to force error, Ronaldo with the ability to fine the net. Sancho deserved his goal was one of Uniteds better performers tonight.

That was a massive result for Man Uniteds season. Knock out champions league where anything can happen and things could look a whole lot differently in February. Importantly it means they also avoid Thursday night Europa League football.

Would they have got the same result under Solakjaer? The way things had slid I'm not sure they would have which is a part indictment on the players too. I don't think anyone believes Carrick is the answer long term but if they get a decent result against Chelsea on Sunday he could well be in the managers chair for a bit longer yet.

After the draw in the other game are Utd top regardless of the final games results?
