It was a result I'd certainly have taken before the match but Vigo were a lot worse than I was expecting and United should have scored a few more goals and finished the tie. I don't blame Mourinho for been annoyed, he could have really gone for it at Arsenal with his best team but thats unlikely now.

I'd imagine Smalling will start on Sunday and expect Martial, Mata, De Gea, Blind, Carrick & Pogba to start too. The Young injury is a blow as he's playing well and would have started against Arsenal.
Young is good for a dive also, but sure ye have Rashford trained well in that department now.

Are you the new stallion?  ;D ::)

I don't know what that means.
I was just cracking a joke,even though it's a true enough statement!
Chase is on the case!

Sane for Man City and Kane for Tottenham dived to win penalties for their sides last weekend however less talk about them than Rashford who is now labeled a well trained diver?

Back to the original point Young could likely miss the rest of the season with that injury last night a blow to lose a player in decent form and one that can play in a number of positions.

Group of us headig to the Semi final on thursday night. Manchester is usually dead midweek. Anyone any suggestions club wise for thursday nights in Manchester.

On Thursday - glad I was wrong about the performance. It was really good and like MM I was surprised at how poor Celta Vigo were. Still, they had a couple of good chances and it could easily have been 1-1 or worse given the chances United missed. A pity the tie wasn't killed off as it probably should be and it has to be remembered that CV have had some brilliant away results in this competition.

I've been heavily critical of Pogba at times when he has deserved it but he was fantastic on Thursday. He did exactly what he should be doing all the time.....moving the ball quickly and accurately and making those surging runs at the right time. None of this proving his strength stuff, he was focussed and professional in his efforts.

Rashford was brilliant. I think his goal was clever. Their keeper had made several saves in the first half to his left. I said it to my brother at half time that I hoped they'd test his right hand side (many keepers aren't as good both sides). It was some strike though the keeper did look foolish.

Team today will be interesting but I'm hopeful of a win.

The Glazers must be the worst owners in European soccer. Man U have the biggest income in England and are consistently mediocre.

Captain Obvious

Eight changes to the starting team today is a clear statement that Mourinho has given up on a top four finish and has put all of his focus on the Europa league.

Plenty was won under the Glazers from the mid 00s to 2013 the club are rebuilding now after the retirement of their greatest ever manager.

Mourinho was brought in last summer to improve the rebuilding process e.g champions league qualification and to win trophies. At the moment Man United can still achieve that this season.

Good for you.  Had Rooney squared the ball for an unmarked Mata instead of trying to beat one on the EPLs best keepers for 15 years the outcome might have been different.   Still think Arsenal would have come back tho.   Resting Valencia was the the biggest sign of not taking the game that seriously.

Hererra will get roasted by Jose, and deservedly so, for turning and then ducking instead of taking the brunt of Xhaka's shot.   What's the point in being their if you're going to duck??

Annoyed the shite outta me watching that today. Arsenal were there for the taking if United made any attempt to play but they went in with a minimalist approach and when Arsenal got a lucky break it was over. Rooney's total ineptitude is comical except it probably cost that game. First goal as always going to win and that chance he ballsed up was glaring (with Mata free in the centre). Everton would be mad to take him, he's like a guy in a pub that won a competition to play a premier league game.

On a positive note Tuanzebe was excellent and would make you wonder why he hasn't got more chances given, ahem, United have such a "small squad".

A draw and a win in the Europa gets United into CL next season but being truthful, anywhere outside of the top 2 is not acceptable.

gallsman

The Glazers aren't even close to the worst owners in Europe ffs.

Well that's top 4 gone now. Big gamble to focus everything on the EL and play the duds like Rooney and Smalling today. Spurs and Liverpool results this weekend had left the league route very open again.

Even if Utd had won today , spurs would have been 9 points ahead with a vastly superior goal difference.
