GAA Discussion / Re: Ulster Club IFC/JFC 2025

It's difficult to adopt a one size fits all approach, counties like Fermamagh and Monaghan have smaller number of clubs. Emyvale in particular look very strong for junior level this year.

Down have top 16 teams at senior, next 16 at intermediate and bottom 10 in Junior. It works well within the county but probably to our detriment at provincial level in the intermediate and junior grades.

I think Odhran Murdock would be a big addition to any Irish team.

Is Rory Brennan and the 2 Donnellys definitely out of the EC v Trillick semi final? I see them at 15/8 on paddy power, it seemed very high for what have been tight encounters over the years.

Quote from: thebigfullforward on October 05, 2025, 09:22:48 PMKilcoo make it 14 finals in a row. Impressive stuff for a brilliant team but there mustn't be much else in Down
rode their luck tonight. Why did that idiot take the ball off O'Hagan who had just nailed 2 2 pointers in a row?

Carryduff will fancy their chances though the experience of winning finals will be huge. Won't deny that I'd love to see Carryduff win as the likes of Kilcoo are the type of team could challenge our 13 in a row run

Are Carryduff a Belfast club?

Has a Belfast Club ever won it?

I would say no and no. Carryduff is significantly separate to not be classed as a Belfast club and no Belfast club has won the senior championship. They have a right chance to give it a proper go. A lot of blow ins a generation about this team but they have built a solid base. Finn Mo and Forker are a strong management team too

Didn't Blaney play for them back in the day?

Greg Blaney and at least 1 brother, John Kelly, Neil Collins, John McCartan all involved in the 90s, and I'm pretty sure I'm leaving someone out.

I didn't see the Kilcoo v Clonduff game last night but I read that Barry O'Hagan came on and scored a couple of 2 pointers in a short period of time.

I know he's had serious injury issues but would there be a case for bringing him back to the county set up even as an impact sub role.

A fully fit Barry O'Hagan and  fully fit Liam Kerr would be huge additions to our forward line.

It would make sense to play the jfc final in Downpatrick.

I see Fermamagh county board have rearranged both sfc semi finals scheduled for tonight, and they will take place on Sunday instead.

Quote from: knowbetter on October 02, 2025, 12:49:33 AMIf we all want to be truthful with ourselves then we should realise that the current hurling championship format works but the teams in intermediate should probably be in junior.

No disrespect to any club but it must be tough to play the intermediate round robin and then on to play a team coming down from senior who have always won it the last couple of years.

I think both Ballela and Warrenpoint will give it a rattle but Liatroim and Carryduff should win by 10+ points each, they are simply playing and competing at a higher level with more numbers.

I would have the senior championship as is with the 6 teams and the bottom two play for intermediate. The rest in Junior and if some of the lower teams are unhappy with this then create a Junior B. This would mean all teams representing down in ulster are actually fit to compete and challenge for their respective titles. We've always struggled in ulster across the board expect for Liatroim a couple years back.

What competition would the previous year's winners of the JHC compete in? Surely they can't be locked in junior forever, there needs to be a tangible path of progression.

Im with LC, I work in construction so I got my eyes open during the last recession. Things going relatively good now, but id be wary of what is coming around the corner.

We have made a right few sacrifices over the last 6 years to get our house paid off, only 2 years to go and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I suppose it depends how secure your employment is, but I've no regrets, once bitten, twice shy.

Kilcoo genuinely is a small parish. The football club is surrounded by Bryansford, Clonduff, Castlewellan, Laitroim and Drumgath, it's remarkable what they achieve.

I find the 3 nominated candidates to date underwhelming, if Maria Steen is afforded the opportunity to run I would certainly vote for her.
