Derry played at a slow pace throughout.  Cavin had a reason to win.... Derry hadn't

Derry management tried out some of their squad players to give them some game time ... non of them really impressed .. but it was great to watch 'Clucky' bringing a whole lot of energy and pace to the game

By some distance i thought Nial Loughlin was their most effective forward in terms of work rate and his goal was a cracking volley

We certainly need all our players fit and ready to go in the Championship

Agree with those who are not overelly conserned about us not getting promoted this year.  Div 2 is the best place for giving young players a chance to develop and help to build a strong squad.

McKinlless's greatest strength is his reading of the game, good man to snap up ball among a group of players and then breaks  at pace with his head up and can take a score or give a clever pass... remember he got an Al-Star

Like to see Mathew Downey get more game time

That is a very good U20 squad

Managent wouldn't need to underestimate Cavan

S Young and S Downey named to start. Not much experience on the bench but plenty of potential. Defence has been solid so far and forwards improving from first day out. Would be nice to get a convincing victory at home to build momentum.

I'd settle for a 1 point win ... Harte involved with Offaly will know the Derry players

Quote from: tbrick18 on February 14, 2026, 08:42:02 PMbrilliant result given the cards in particular.
that will do the confidence the world of good.
I assume glass will be suspended for a game? or will there be an appeal?

That's some result for Derry given the sending off and then having to play against the wind, snow and rain in the second half ... would have loved to have  seen P Cassidy's goal ... this team has "Character in abundance

Quote from: Ryan O on January 25, 2026, 05:00:02 PMThe lavey lads soon come out previously I was accused of having a problem with Steelstown and before that with North Derry.

Newbridge have 5 men on the squad and are back to back championship winners. There is no way Patrick Mc Gurk is strong enough for inter county football and I'm basing that after watching a full championship last year. There is a place for Toner but I think the game has changed to much for him to be influential.
Individuals on the squad 100% have merit so Diamond, Devlin, Kearney argument doesn't add up. They won't make their clubs successful alone but are by far the best players on their club team.

If you've 4/5 men on the squad you have to be one of top teams in county.
Ciaran Henry is Laveys best player

Whatever else in the post, McGurk was one of the shining lights imo last year... We all see things differently I suppose

McGurk will be a very good player .. remember his first game for Derry against Mayo last year he scored a goal ... Which club does that fella Devlin play for ?

We are doing our best at Club level Hurling .... we could be doing with a Further Ed College that specialise in Hurling but where would the players come from ???   With the benefit of hindsight maybe the Derry County or Antrim County Boards should have concentrated a long term project in Derry City or Belfast to develop the game ... but sure Kilkenny can't field a County football team .... so all credit to the Ulster Counties that have done their best to keep the game alive

Quote from: toby47 on December 05, 2025, 12:42:17 PMHonestly didn't expect to see Derry so low down. But maybe I should have, with participation in the city.

Add into that half the County wouldn't even be too GAA friendly, still wouldnt have thought it'd be so low

It's all about quality, rather than quantity.

It's a rather " irrelevant" stat ...not taking into account the " Orange and Green factor " or the massive difference in the Urban and Rural effect ...

I saw Ryan McNichol and Tom Rogers playing for Derry U20's both were excellent also say Ryan playing in the County Final for Glenullin also had a good game ( all be it at Intermediate level !)

To get more out of Shane McGuigin then he should be playing in a Half Back type role where he wouldn't be as tightly marked and he is also very good at getting ' break ball'and accurate with his passing .

In general playing in Div 2 should give the Management a bit more latitude to try out new players and different tactics

Does anyone know all the names of our Senior Football management and backroom team or has it not been finalised yet ?
