hard to swallow that - heaney and mort were good as were Hanley and Howley & Cunniffe and B Moran decent - One tactical point of note - when padden was taken off mayo went to shreds I know people will have a canary when they read this but I dont think people in Mayo recognise the work he does defensivley and in the last 10 mins derry ran riot running through the middle where padden was operating as a second centre half back  - I dont think he offers enough as an attacking role but I would look at him cb again next year or midfield - Play a defensive role much similar to the way Joe Macmahon does for Tyrone. we are far to attack minded all over the field it can leave us exposed... like in the last 10 mins

Still thought with 15 to go we were going to win it ...
Dillon and mort fall on the big day again -  dissappointing

Kilcullen to full back, Padden to CHB - like they league where they were a hell of alot better than anything since then.

May fans are a bit cluless when t comes to tactics like a number of their players. It has taken us 3-4 years to relaise Gardiner cant defend. All mayo fans do is give out about BJP yet in Saturdays game he set was playing as an extra defender - and set up 4 of Mayos first half points and and dispossessed Cavan men four times. He is one of the few Mayo men with defensive qulaities and for that reason alone O Mah will not drop him nor will any other manager.

Forward play is very good I just worry bout Bradley at 14 and young Hanley wont get it all his own way against Sean Martin Lockhart. Will be very tight.

Keith Duggan of the Irish Times has wrote 2 articles in particular on Mayo football , one the day prior to the 2004 aif and one after last years,, if anyone has them handy could they post them. I need them for a bit of research.. Thanks

mayo fans are oficially thick when it comes to football and I am a mayo man and i recognise that.. Look at club football in mayo and how bad it is supported. People in Mayo like most of the thickos on this board have nay a notion of football,

Now in context here is what matters

We had a decent league campaign where players did well in certin positions. like it or not bjp was very good in centre back in the league particularly against Kerry, the dubs... why was he just not kept there the last day. the same arguement could be promoted for Kilcullen and full back. Why did he not start there and if the going got tought swap at midfield with Henaey, I dont think Bergin would have fielded to easily above Kilcullen.  O Mahoney panicked and his team selection and positiong was poor. Gardiner has no defensive qualities whatsoever. Dillon and Mort are living of the glory of their all stars. Macd must be a very stupid man if he is still holdng up the ball after all these years.

Here isd my Mayo team for this years qualifiers and for the next year or two.

Clarke
O Malley
Kilcullen/Nevin
Higgins
Howley
Padden
Deveany
Heaney
Brady - For qualifiers anyway. McG when he is fit.
Harte
Dillon
T Mort
O Neill
Moran
Mort

jom has to settle on "a" team. Padden was looking fine in CHF but switiching him and everyone else only confused the situation. to much movinh and shaking going on and that has not helped us. we need Heaney at midfield and stay there, padden at chb and fill, Gardiner needs time to regain his confidence, His kicking is diabolical and every one has copped on to his running game... he has to transform his game. Moran should be full forward and kept there, Mcds race his ran and is still holding uo the ball to much#

In the league we were reasonably settled and did ok but JOM has swapped and changed to muck... Mort is atricious in front of goal and his miss was crucial if we had got that there would have been 2 points in it with 30 mins to and a gale with us..

Not clinical enough or settled enough we have to get a team organised and settled and we have seven weeks to do it.

Gardiner to get the line unless he learns to defend - Typically Mayo to move Heaney to CHB even though playing top stuff in the miiddle , BJP has been good there all league though he was not great last sunday Id still keep him there,,, O NELL INSTEAD OF mORT, if he is playing up, Mcd will be ok its only rumour...  Nallen to replace Padden or Kilcullen if dodgy//

padden could maybe do a job at 14 as we still need some form of physical prescence. Padden can play anywhere and maybe thats his downfall but he has yet to get a runa round a chb despite marking some good footballers there, as a belmullet freind of mne told me, only two men have scored of him in the league so far. I did not think he should have started the aif last year but turns out he was our best player that day by a long way, still got subbed - was madness.

We need Harte in the thick if things on sunday, and maybe another run for aom as wee need a little more bulk against these fella,  they will run riot in the middle when they did not, Just hope we win !!!!!

As regards CHB padden has been top quality there all season and from my calculation kept his man scoreless on all bar two matches, yes he did make some bad mistakes on the ball last sunday and got punished. But thats football ..
Kilcullen is the best of what we have there... there is no one else in Mayo... What is the point in playing O MALLEY there if we are going to come uop against the kingdom some time in the summer.

Mayo fans have to stop being so apocolyptic, Id still be more wary of Gardeiners point blank refusal to defend
