We digress.

Main point wasn't about St Endas but rather the lack of players, or lack of players committing, from South and West Belfast.

That's not a dig either.  It's a frustration that we cannot seem to fully harness that potential.

So they play North Antrim competitions at every level up to and including Senior in hurling.

Football I am not sure they still take part in the O'Cahan Cup but they play all juvenile competitions.

St Endas have been SW for a long time.  And NA for hurling.

Noticed that also.  One from LD and one from St Pauls.  That aside the rest of the squad were all South West teams.

If a South West team can win that Tier more or less on their own then getting the city boys committed would surely see us push on even further.

Developing right type of players is key.

Same old.

Need good coaching structures at clubs and beyond to best develop players.

Same old.

Too many set in their ways as well around what the game of hurling should look like.

Romantic stuff is lovely but it is not moving with the times.

That too is same old as we have been too resilient to change for a long time, especially at club level.

Like it or lump it physicality and athleticism is nearly the primary requirement nowadays. Kildare threw us about like rag dolls earlier this season ffs.

Is this model a success in Down?

Antrim website says:

£90.00 out of every ticket sold after the initial 20 goes directly to your Club. For example if you help your Club sell another 100 Tickets, then your Club generates £9,000.00 for itself with no outlay!

That's not a bad return given don't have to put up any prizes and does not seem to carry much by way of admin.

And for anyone that cares the county benefits as well.

But then this is Antrim so maybe we would prefer if the county put up the prizes and let the clubs keep all the money raised.

In fairness to the hurlers they run their golf classic to fund it

That's kind of where I was going as was wondering are there different funding models for each code.

And then what that extends to paying for.

Some chat about where money should be prioritised but if players are funding their trips, perhaps a benefactor specifically funding a manager etc then maybe not the same fat to skim elsewhere.

Quote from: Hectic on April 29, 2026, 08:28:21 AMShould take advantage of the hurlers implosion and call up Molloy, Elliot and Cunning.
That would be so Antrim, fellas that committed to the small ball should turn up and get game time in the TC before lads that shouldered to this point playing football, just because things have went belly up with the hurlers, especially after they'd have been asked to if theyd commit to the football at the start off Dorans tenure

Previous posts indicated we have lost players from the panel who will be needing replaced one assumes.

And Doran has previously said that he has talked to Molloy and Elliot and predicted that we will see them in an Antrim football jersey one day.

So if needing to supplement the squad why not them?

Or does continuing with hurling squad at first ask rule you out forever?

And does same then go for other lads who couldn't commit due to other priorities like work, travel etc?

The assumption has to be that the events around Davy happened sometime after Saturday?

And that the players had a statement with the press early enough on Tuesday?

Anyone else thinking it's pretty quick to have a statement drafted and be running squealing to the press?

And that before you consider these are the same players that have been putting on the jersey and playing $h!t as a previous poster has already pointed out.

Of course there is the thing where a lot of commitment is required to play county and the players have given that.

But I think they have let themselves down a bagful in other ways.

Agree.

There was a lot of excitement around the county when Davy was appointed.

Maybe just a bad fit where he does not have the players for how he wants to play.

Seems to be an inevitability about it at this stage. But even at that I am expecting struggles going forward given our traditionally stronger clubs are poor enough right now too.

Haha, sure I only missed the winner there. I think that was the quarter final predictions?

I do feel St Brigids are going to show through sooner or later and like last year it is probably reasonably open again this year.
