Was painful to watch in the end. Circus over.

Don't let what actually happened ruin your party or anything.

Really entertaining fight. Anyone who follows boxing could tell you that was quite a good fight. McGregor could have been a serious boxer if he had concentrated on it.

Ah stop. A 40 year old who came out of retirement was beating him to a pulp. It was never about anything other than big paydays for both.

All this needs is a fat arsed Kardashian parading around telling us what round it is.

Those Irish players cannot actually even play soccer. We should pack it in as a soccer nation. Mexico are not a world power but are giving us a football lesson. They can pass the ball, and do swift intricate moves. The Irish players are running around like headless chickens. I know it's a friendly but they've seriously exposed themselves as very poor players. It should be 7 Nill at this stage.

Picture quality is great. My only quibble is that on Roku, there seems to be quite a long delay - would say it's well over a minute.

If an American president did that (provided he wasn't black of course) he'd be considered the best since FDR. If an Irish Taoiseach did that (provided he wasn't a blueshirt of course) he'd be considered the greatest leader since... actually when did we ever have a good leader.  Brian Boru?

Trump was a clown candidate (and still is a clown) but in an attempt to get Hillary elected the lame stream media gave him in the region of $5B in free advertising.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/30/breakingviews-trump-cold-shoulder-for-tv-ads-may-set-the-trend.html

(And it backfired spectacularly on them)

Speaking of clowns.  ::)

Haha......they must be fvcking furious with themselves.  Too cute by half, and now its all has come tumbling back on top of them.  The NY Times couldnt even accurately report on the Patriots trip to the White House without fvking up again

Well sure if its all about the media, why isn't the other half of the country up in arms over Fox, talk radio and all the rest of the cynical spoofers spreading lies and delusion from the perspective of the right? Why is it only the "lame stream media" who apparently wield such malign and self-defeating influence?

You're dead right....it's a sad day when The NY Times is just about as credible as Fox News.....blatantly lying and making shit up in order to tip the scale in favor of one party over the other.

A news organization can have an editorial slant and point of view/favoured perspective while still being credible.

Come back to us when Fox takes back/retracts even a sampling of the outright lies and bullshit they throw out daily.

Although, it looks like the younger Murdochs aren't quite as bereft of conscience as the auld fella...

Of course they can have "biases", but when the NY Times flat out makes shit up and actively colludes with the campaign of one candidate over another, then they have about as much credibilty as Fox News.

What did they make up?

This is pretty scary (and scandalous) for a start

I think you'll find it was the New York Times that broke the Clinton private server story - probably the one thing that caused her the election. The Rolling Stone magazine has long lost credibility in the news stakes. Even in music, it was bought by the record companies.

Bill O'Reilly gone from Fox

Smarmy p***k with an Irish name unfortunately. Had paid 13 million in hush money! How on earth could he afford to do that? Maybe Pat Kenny and yer man 'talk to Joe what is name' underpaid.
Fox make $1.5 bn a year and O'Reilly had the most popular show drawing in the most ad money. I think he earned $18m

There were loads of Irish Americans on the Trump bandwagon.

You'll find that Irish-Americans are some of the biggest right wing zealots in the US. Typically when the Irish emigrate by the time they are first generation or second they have become first class bigots - and lots of them are part of Trumps team (Conway, Spicer, Bannon, etc) and on Fox (Hannity, O'Reilly). Ironically, you'll find that some of the biggest Irish-American right wing zealots are some of the biggest supporters of Sinn Fein and Irish Republicanism (who'd proclaim themselves left wing in Ireland). Republican Peter King would be a typical example. The people who march up Fifth Avenue with the England out of Ireland banners are the same ones who are out in out homophobes in the US. From a values perspective they have more in common with the DUP, yet politically they are wrap the green flag around me, belting out some say he rose again (the devil) and joined the British Army. Which is why Right wing Left wing is meaningless anymore. Some of the biggest left wingers are at the same time some of the biggest right wingers, especially when it comes to Irish-America.

I still do not understand why a substantial section of people in the North aspire to Irish Unity when they have been shafted continuously by successive Dublin Governments since partition. For similar reasons I do not understand Unionists allegiance and trust in London Governments.

Is that the truth though. Dublin governments often spend more time lobbying for the North of Ireland, than they do other remote regions of Ireland (think places Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Longford - places off the tourist trail). Among the things the Irish government do:

They promote the whole island for tourism
They've lobbied both US and Europe for investment in North and have secure a lot
They've lobbied wealthy Irish-Americans for investment in North
They fund sporting bodies that fund athletes in the North (from GAA to Golf to Olympics)
They've funded infrastructure (roads, electricity)
They've argued for common agricultural policy
They've funded interpretative center in Boyne (keep the Orange fellas happy)
They've had NAMA give sweetheart property deals on behalf of northern politicians (allegedly)

Honestly, many of our politicians spend more time looking out for North than they do rural counties of Ireland. Every Taoiseach from Garret to Albert to Bertie have devoted far more time to north of Ireland issues than the backwater areas of Ireland, that have suffered huge emigration from the 80s onwards, and most small towns now are just site soars of empty store fronts.

By the way, I agree Dublin should be spending time looking out for the people in the North. We are one people. However, it's nauseating to hear the whinging that you are being ignored. Try living in a small rural town in the West of Ireland, Fearon. Go there and call people lucky free staters. I used to live in one before I emigrated. Would love if the Dublin government had done all the things I listed above.

McIlroy has always been clear that he sees himself as Northern Irish first - just have to look at his tweets over the years with hashtags like #gawa #norniron. He was always uncomfortable choosing between Ireland and GB for the Olympics, wavering between the two, stating he'd have preferred a Northern Ireland only option. He picked Ireland after initially saying he'd choose GB because he felt more British. But he chose Ireland ultimately because Golfing Union of Ireland is an all-island sport. If there's something he's not ultimately being upfront about is that Irish officials apparently took a hardline position and would not allow him wear Nike due to the team's contract with Nike competitor New Balance. Thus, his cryptic tweet "Karma" when Pat Hickey was arrested. But he's always been very clear about his identity; his trouble stems from some of the rest of us demanding absolutist positions on national identity.

Sorry to hear this news

Sad news. Always a fun band that never took themselves too seriously. Highly underrated musicians too. Saw the original four in their final concert in Dublin in 2014, and the performance of just three guitarists and a drummer would put any modern band to shame.

Not sure where Aoghán is going with this one lads..no matter what happens as regards political realignments....why would we drop our anthem and our flag??? Bhur mbarúileacha??

It would be in the context of a United Ireland
Surely the flag already accommodates the unionists .

That's like saying the Union Jack accommodates Irish nationalists because it's got the St. Patrick's Cross, or that the outlawed Stormont flag accommodates Irish nationalists because it integrates elements of the original Ulster flag, or that the Royal Coat of Arms accommodates Irish nationalists because it's got the harp, or that the IFA soccer jersey accommodates Irish nationalists because it's got a Celtic Cross. The reality is all these symbols connotate something else for Irish nationalists and mostly provoke, as does the Irish tri-colour for Unionists, even if it's got orange and the original intentions were good. Symbols take on new meanings often because of misappropriation and indeed the Celtic Cross is a racist symbol for many around the world given that the Ku Klux Klan adopted it for their sinister motives.

Obama was a great president and I think will rightly go down in history as such. I think he'll be mentioned in the same breath as Kennedy and FDR in years to come. A true compassionate leader.

Pity he didn't get a 20 year term. It's sad so many Americans (and Irish apparently) are so naive and weak minded that they can be brainwashed into thinking he was a poor president. Obamination" is the mutterings of a total utter gobshite.

10 trillion debt in eight years, more than every other president combined makes him an absolute nightmare of a president, how is the country going to recover from that?

Obamacare has been a disaster, the rollout sums up this clampetts presidency, a total clusterfuck!

Who has it been a disaster for? My sister in law  was diagnosed with cancer last year. Up until Obamacare she went through life without insurance,  being a self employed, depending on trainee students when she needed dental care. Obamacare was the only thing that enabled her to get insurance and have her cancer treated. Her family are all Republicans that hate Obama. She is alive thanks to her treatment. They still hate Obama. America is a very strange country.
