No one from Laois actually cares that our majestic county was once called that.

If yis dont care then why bother changing it?

Maybe they haven't...

Despite the county's name being upheld as Laois through the 2001 Local Government Act, no legislation was ever enacted after independence explicitly changing the name from Queen's County, the name formally established under the 1898 Local Government Act which continued to have legal effect. When land is sold in the county the relevant title deeds are still updated as being in Queen's County.

So what was the announcement anyway? Are you British folk getting a day off for some Queen related anniversary or something?

Here's hoping!

If atheists can get Christmas off, and Protestants St Patricks Day, why shouldn't Catholics can get Royal days off?

Nah, way too obvious and predictable. I was being generous with the D-. No one from Laois actually cares that our majestic county was once called that. It's only Nordies that seem to think we care God love them.
Nice to see a few Armagh boys talk to me again though. Ye went missing just around the time Laois beat Armagh again this year... Not saying the two were connected but.....

You were fairly quiet yourself, as Laois slipped into the abyss that is Division 4. Ah say, Division 4.

Why would anyone, especially on a forum like this, care about this?
The Nordies love their Queen and Royal family.

Nearly as much as men from Queens County!!!!  Huzzah!

Game, set and match!  ;D

GAA Discussion / Re: Joe Brolly

Brolly's columns are all about him. I was invited to this GAA dinner... I was chatting to the President... I was having a pint with the Dublin team... I went to see Mayo train (the only person allowed in)... It took me 3 hours getting out of Croke Park because so many people wanted selfies with me... He's an attention-seeking dick.

Because if one of the top ones die us Nordies get a day off work.

I'm afraid you'll have to wait. Queen Liz might outlive NI at this stage.

The Greek won't though.

Sad news. RIP

In other words, the Brits had to get us. It's not costing them near enough.

Not only that, but even in the good times, the infrastructure was poor, nhs fecked, waiting lists etc. This place was never designed to be prosperous, nor never will be

Gerry kelly stepping aside for john finucane. Might make thinks a bit closer esp if sdlp picked someone other than mallon. Would be good to see dodds go

It's a pity Finucane did not come forward as an independent willing to take his seat.  It would be something to have a Finucane putting it up to the Tory government at PMQ or any other occasion.

As an independent, the SDLP would have had to stand aside and Dodds could be taken down.
Why would he take an oath of allegience to the Queen who's agents shot his dad? No self respecting Irish man would.

If Sinn Fein took their seats at Westminster they would have the chance to do what they did in the Assembly election.

I for one will not be casting a vote for someone who is not going to represent me!!
What bollix, noone listens to NI MP's.

No one cares or listens to anyone in the North. MPs or Joe Soap.

People were pissed because the North voted Remain. Now we expect Westminister to listen to that? We can't even vote to see which Eton toff becomes head honcho. We have to sit back and watch some toffee nosed bollix make decisions on a state they know nothing about, and we have no say in that whatsoever. Yet we seem to just have accepted that situation for decades.

This is all handbags The Brexit will be soft simply because both UK and EU are mutually dependent
Who needs the other the most?
I know one part of us would love to see the Brits totally fck up but we also know it's better for us if they remain reasonably successful and maintain a common trading area.
I would love to see the Tories f**k up and be excluded from  power for a generation

They were out for a generation and uk government still fucked up... politicians will always f**k you over doesn't matter a feck what colour of tie you were

+1

I wish people would stop going on about this Tory and Labour shite. They both sing from the same hymn sheet. They're not there to do me or you any good.

No point talking to gobshites who are obsessed with the Left as if left wing politics will change everything for the better. They are usually failed university students who think they know better what to do with your wages I.e. Give it to welfare scroungers

Yeah because these welfare "scroungers" are the real problem. I see their propaganda has won you over anyway.

Nope they arent really the problem just one of many reasons that working class voters feel pissed off..You cant blame the tax avoiders, the 1% rich who have screwed the system because the government have allowed it, the ones we have voted in...

THe system is set up to benefit the big chiefs and their cronies, not for us peasants.

Aye but do the EU want France, Spain, Italy etc exiting too? If Britain get a cracking deal, others will be queuing up to leave (I think they are anyway).
