General discussion / Wakes and Funerals during the pandemic
« on: March 22, 2020, 12:32:16 PM »
Apologies if itís been covered in the main thread, but Iíve been avoiding that for my own sanity.

Whatís the procedure regarding wakes and funerals during the pandemic?

We have a family member who isnít too well (not virus related), and with other vulnerable people in the extended family, we want to be prepared for what might happen.

As hard as it would be for a vulnerable family member not to be able to attend a relatives wake/funeral, we have to be sensible too. And some people might go anyway even if it jeopardises their health or life.

Any help or advice welcome.

General discussion / Irelandís drugs epidemic
« on: October 09, 2019, 12:27:25 AM »
Yer man Carvill wrote a piece this week, and it got me thinking.

We live in a time where there has never been more awareness programs in schools, sports clubs, on TV etc. People are more educated about the dangers of drugs, yet there seems to be more and more people gripped by drugs problems.

Iíd say most towns and villages in the country are touched in some way. Itís frightening.

What can be done? And why are drugs so prevalent all around the country?

Apparently Jonny Cooper was the 21st player sent off in an AI football final.

Iím trying to figure out the other 20.

And who was the first sent off? It wasnít Kevin Moran again, was it?  ;D

I can only think of:

Donal Vaughan
John Small
Liam McHale
Colm Coyle
Charlie Redmond (eventually)
Diarmuid Marsden (unfairly, of course)
Tony Davis
Meath 2001, Nigel Nestor, was it?
Cork 1988, Colm OíNeill? (Punched Mick Lyons. Brave man!)

3 Dubs in 1983. Mullins?
1 Galway in 83?

OK, Iím done.

GAA Discussion / Highest individual score in one match
« on: August 08, 2019, 09:50:57 AM »
Oisin 2-7, Stevie McDonnell 3-4, Canavan 0-11, McGuigan 0-11...

How about this:

Downís Niamh Mallon scored 3-18 v Wexford in the Intermediate Camogie championship last weekend.

Can anyone beat that?

GAA Discussion / Retain the Super 8ís series?
« on: August 06, 2019, 02:44:32 PM »
Two years into a three year experiment (apparently). There was a tweak after year one, and talk of more tweaks after year two.

So, are you in favour of retaining the Super 8 series, or would you prefer to go back to knockout quarter finals?

Just wondered what the feeling on it was.

General discussion / Irelandís Favourite Folk Song - RTE One
« on: May 21, 2019, 11:39:48 AM »
Narrowed down to these 10.

I thought maybe The Irish Rover, Fields Of Athenry, Only Our Rivers Run Free, Roddy McCorley, Whisky In The Jar and a few others might have been there.

And what about Joxer Goes To Stuttgart?

Feel free to add your favourite if itís not there.

General discussion / Kerbsy, Kerby or Cribby?
« on: March 28, 2019, 06:38:11 PM »

Just seen this on the news. Never heard it called Cribby. It was always Kerbsy around our way.

What do you call it?

Also, what were the rules round your place? We had a rule if you hit both kerbs, you won the game.

General discussion / What have you never done or seen in your life?
« on: December 31, 2018, 05:24:31 PM »
Heard this discussed recently about seemingly everyday things that some people have never done or seen, eg. never been on a plane, never been to the cinema, never owned a TV etc.

It would be interesting to hear others.

So, tomorrow it will be 25 years since that night.

I canít remember much about the match except the two goals, but I do remember the hostile atmosphere. The relief when McLoughlin hit the equaliser, then afterwards the seemingly long wait to see if Spain could hang on v Denmark.

What are your memories of that night?
