What an ignorant comment.

I'm sorry, but Meehan should get 8 weeks off for that dive.

He has brought the lowest form of gamesmanship into the sport and has been doing it repeatedly for the last 6 or 7 years. The man is a decent player but is a disgrace to the sport. He should be hanging his head in shame.

Total and utter over reaction to that incident. He hasn't been doing anything other than been one of the best forwards in the country for the last 6/7 years. Decent player? Letting your emotions get the better of you there, if only we in mayo had a player of his class. Oh and it was a clear free because O'Hara lazily and clumsily left his leg out for Meehan to run into.

Yeah agree with that about Bradley, looks a very tidy player, good engine too. He was excellent against England in the 1st game. Also agree the yanks were robbed!

The co-commentator on RTE talked an awful lot of shite. Ref was quite poor all right but it seems to me that they have been giving soft frees in all the games so far but maybe I'm too used to watching English football. Serbia have some really good players, Krasic (spelling?) especially.

"Analysis" of the game tonight on RTE was utter sh1t. Whelan and Dunphy are two of the worst analysts around and Bill starting to sound awful old...Hamman seems pretty good though in fairness.

When will UK commentators ever get over the fact that Forlan wasn't as good in the Premiership in Spain? They all acknowledge that he's become a world class striker since he left United, but always have to quailfy it. The season before he left, had he not started to score more frequently, although obviously not as much as at Villareal or Atletico? I specifically remember he developed a knack for scoring some pretty important goals for them, such as the two at Anfield.

Couldn't agree more tbh. The same lines spouted every time he goes near the ball. It's a bit ignorant really, and very patronising, because as you say it's not as if he was completely useless before he left United.

GAA Discussion / Re: Longford v Mayo 26th June

McGarrity has a turned into a big worry. On his day he can be very good but as the last poster pointed out he hasn't played for God knows how long and he is such a negative influence when things are going wrong. As much as people say Parsons needs to be dropped I would drop him before Parsons to be honest. Problem is lack of alternatives, hopefully Pat Harte can recover and we can see what he has to offer, maybe alongside Seamus O'Shea.

Finally got round to watching all the Die Hards this past few days, long time waiting. Anyone any opinions? I think the first one would be the worst. Thought the second in particular was great. Fourth also a lot better than I thought it would be.

Ban him mod!!!

The first Die Hard is arguably one of the best action films of all time IMHO. Ironically, I didn't like the 2nd one at all.

While it is subjective as to whether you think a film or not that is one of the most ridiculous comments I've read in a long time! The 1st Die Hard is by a mile the best and one of the best action films of all time as was mentioned. Terrible taste.

General discussion / Re: The IRISH RUGBY thread

He is a very annoying commentator in fairness. Heaslip fairly ruined any chance of a competitive game though I would say the All Blacks were always going to win. Decent second half from Ireland though.

Even though we haven't got the class players we had 4 years ago like McDonald, Brady, Heaney and Nallen, we still should be playing way better than we should at the weekend. I know we were missing some important forwards like Dillon, Kilcoyne, B Moran and Harte but we had enough both on the pitch and on the bench to beat Sligo but we were only competitive up until half way through the second half. You could see the lack of drive and hunger from the players and in my opinion and experience that comes from the management. On top of this the management have not, in my opinion, developed one of the younger players and it could be argued that they have regressed as well. For those reasons O'Mahony and his colleagues should go...

Well of the current panel I think Cunniffe is the most suited to mark a player like O'Sullivan or O'Neill. I mean Howley was roasted by O'Connor in the league final and by Joe Sheridan against Meath last year. Pace will certainly help mark these top players and I think he could grow into the role.

With regards Marty Clarke, yes he was MotM v Mayo in 2005 but Cunniffe was also widely regarded as Mayos best player that day and was one of the few to continue playing until the end.

Anyway, no one has suggested a better CHB in my opinion and if the Kilcullens can't make the squad I would doubt that they have the potential to mark Declan O'Sullivan et al very well.

To be honest I think the best players are in the squad, other than maybe McDonald, Aidan Higgins and Aidan Campbell (who doesn't seem to have the head). And the reason the 1st 2 lads aren't in the panel is to do with O'Mahoney wanting to start afresh I would guess (not that I agree with that!).

Ah that's the media, it's the same in every county in fairness and that's not going to change.
What I'd take from that podcast is the fact that the lads haven't a notion what they're talking about. I mean they allude to all the problems, fair enough, but their suggested solutions were a load of rubbish. They point out all the players who should have been taken off (about 9 or 10 players probably) but then don't tell us who this great player is that they want to come on. Crap analysis in my opinion.

The problem is coming from above, as long as you believe that the players have ability, which I do. We don't have the talent that Kerry and Cork have but we are as good talent-wise as anyone else and we are especially more talented than Sligo. However, the players are just not anywhere near motivated enough or tactically prepared to be able to compete with any of the big teams or even improving ones like Sligo, as was proven at the weekend. Thus, the need for new management, ones who can inspire, lead and drive the players.

Finally, I think Cunniffe is a good CHB but wasn't great on Saturday, mainly in the 2nd half. I also think Parsons is a very good footballer, as are McLoughlin and Cafferkey. They were poorly prepared and motivated for the game and it seems they don't believe in the management anymore (if they ever did). The injuries we had; Dillon, Kilcoyne, B Moran, Harte were all very big loses too, as well as an out of form Aiden O'Shea (he should be the 1st forward on the team sheet) who is being poorly developed by the management, no more than the aforementioned young players. Can't see us doing anything in the qualifers but it will interesting to see the response...

That leaves us with a potential forward line on the sidelines of :

Harte    Aidan O'Shea   Dillon

Ronaldson  B Moran    Kilcoyne

(BJP as an option anywhere really!)

That's healthy for Mayo but i would like to see the forwards doing the business on Sat and making it very diffficult to be dropped. I take it Alan Freeman is our right-footed freetaker then on Sat and Conor the left ones? Really hoping Alan Freeman goes well and gives the Aughamore club a little something to smile about.

I'm pretty sure Varley will be taking the frees on the left. Also, I'd say Conor will take the ones on the right unless he's feeling particularly confident on Saturday evening :)

Agree with southsidejohny - a very disappointing selection. I cannot see us getting enough scores to win.

But Mayo have a chance on Saturday

Of winning Britain's Got Talent.

This is probably the manager's fifth attempt at getting a championship line-up right. His future is on the line here. If injuries are a problem 5 challenge matches mixed with club matches haven't helped the cause.

And if we do get out of Sligo that team is nowhere near good enough to beat Galway.

The one thing that can be said though in favour of the line-up is that many of the names dropped (and there are eight changes from the Meath game last Summer) are the failures of the past. Some obviously remain but 4 debutants, and Kevin McLoughlin being very inexperienced are not as tarnished and maybe that is the thinking.

Sligo will not need to be brilliant to beat us and for that reason they must now be favourites.

Ah come on will ya, favourites? I mean fair enough the FF line isn't the strongest it could be (I wouldn't write the new lads off by the way, they could turn out to be very good) and Dillon is a big loss but other than that it's a strong team. We are still better than Sligo in most lines of the field. The players will have no fear of a team that is a league or 2 below them in the National League and who historically don't cause Mayo much trouble. Granted Sligo have home advantage and have improved their performances considerably since Mayo last hammered them in Castlebar but if Mayo match them for fight and hunger it's hard, very hard to see Sligo outplay Mayo, in my opinion.

Dodgy enough FF line in fairness, very surprising. Barry must be injured, which is unbelievable in itself, and
O'Shea must be doing very poorly or else O'Mahony is trying to pull a quick one on the Sligo lads and start the 2 big lads but I'd doubt it.

Should be pretty physical around the middle of the field and we have a very pacey, young half back line and an equally young full back line. Overall, big risk by O'Mahony with the forward line assuming he hasn't got injuries that I don't know about. Best of luck to them anyway, especially the new boys.
