It will be tough when he retires.  Who can we get to replace him?  Nobody oin the current team would have the same "blas". (how do you get the fada on the a?)

Are there any local radio commentators out there that could do a job?

GAA Discussion / Re: MAYO STAR HEADING TO OZ????
August 01, 2007, 09:17:59 AM
Historically speaking, I have always wondered why Ballaghaderreen is associated with Mayo. When you cross the county boundary into Roscommon you are travelling for a good bit before you get to Ballaghaderreen. Does anyone know the historical reason for this association to Mayo?

Its alright I found the answer myself:

The town of Ballaghaderreen was located in County Mayo until 1899, when it was transferred to Roscommon by the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898. Gaelic games supporters are split between those who support Mayo and the local Gaelic Athletic Association team which competes in the Mayo county championship and those who support the Roscommon county team.[1]

Well Lads, the next round of qualifiers have to be played in neutral venues. What do you think the chances of ourselves and Galway playing a double header with Cork and Louth in Croker? If not there were do you think they'll play this one? Hyde Park, Mullingar etc

Fair play to Declan Browne for staying with Tipp - he could have done the simple thing and gone and lived in Dublin and played with them and got a big job etc etc -

As was seen when the Gallaghers came to Dublin and weren't picked we don't poach players from other counties!!!

In fairness ye tried to get him but failed some how

Meath team announced as following:

Meath (SFC v Down) – Brendan Murphy, Eoin Harrington, Darren Fay, Niall McKeigue, Seamus Kenny, Anthony Moyles, Caoimhin King, Mark Ward, Nigel Crawford, John Donegan, Kevin Reilly, Peader Byrne, Stephen Bray, Shane O'Rourke, Brian Farrell.

Substitutes – Rickey Nolan, Stephen MacGabhann, Cian Ward, Peter Curran, Charles McCarthy, Cormac McGuinness, Chris O'Connor, Padraig Howard, Stephen Sheppard, John Barry O'Reilly, Michael Burke, David Donegan, Jamie Queeney, Graham Reilly.

A very workmanlike half forward line, relying on the inside forwards to be on form

Cian is a class act but he won't start the next day. He's a corner forward and I can't see Bray or Joe getting dropped/moved to acomodate him. But at least we know that when times are tough we have a man with the metal to come in and do a job for us. Jody Devine Mark 2

Farrell is a big loss, question is, GG or Cian Ward? Ward has never really done it for the seniors though no one can doubt his ability. GG loves the stage and playing against the Dubs but has he had enough football?
Personally I would have to go with Graham, if we are not getting enough scores, we can bring on Ward for McGloughlin and put Graham wing forward and let him scare the bejesus out of Casey.

I'd go with Ward, he is young but the lad has serious talent. For Meath to win we need to score goals and if anyone has being watching club football in Meath they'd have to agree that Ward is the best in the business

Someone should have told Sean he has been appointed, he doesn't seem to know:

Boylan refutes Carlow 'appointment' claims
25 April 2007

Sean Boylan has denied reports that he will have an involvement with the Carlow footballers in this year's championship.

The former Meath boss said there was no foundation to weekend reports that he had been employed as a consultant to newly appointed Carlow manager John Kearns. Boylan explained that his role thus far was to offer some advice to Carlow "in their endeavours to get things up and running again" following the resignation of Andy Shorthall in the latter stages of the county's ill-fated NFL campaign.

He insisted that his involvement with Carlow had not extended beyond offering one piece of advice, which was something he had often agreed to do with other teams in the past.

"One bit of advice. Nothing further than that," he stated.

A very bad day at the office for Finley, those two handy frees he missed in the first half lost the game for Monaghan I'm thinking. Think this Meath team has to score goals to win games.

Thats a bit vague Eugene.  :o

If its results yer after they beat St Pats 15 - 7
If its the Paisley thing its a no go.

If something else then I dont know  ;)

No I was wondering more about manager Davy Nelson walking out on the day of the game and one of their better players leaving with him, although looking at their team the weekend and can't see who that may be. Could be all just rumour I'm hearing

I thought it amusing that the last comment of the show was from a Dublin fan:

"Their were plenty of kids here today and I hope they won't be grown up till they see another All-ieland again"

I'd say some of those kids he was referring to have their own children now and still no Sam in the capital. From a personal point of view I hope that John O'Leary remains the last Dublin captain to pick up Sam till the day he dies and that he has a long long life ahead of him

OVER-RATED: Alan Brogan, I think he's bit of a headless chicken. Everytime he gets the ball I think they should play the music from some really bad car chase scene in a black and white movie.

UNDER-RATED: Graham Geraghty, this man is one of the most naturally talented players of the last twenty years. The only reason that people do not appreciate his talents is because they are blinded by their unfounded hatred of the man
