Meaney can stay where he is.

This is a disgusting comment on a guy who has been a great servant to Laois football (and would be very welcome back in my opinion).
There are indeed many "lurkers" on this forum who do not want to descend to debating with the likes of this poster.

I don't agree with the decision to "suspend" him and more importantly I don't agree with WHY he was suspended. Laois GAA and John Sugrue didn't suspend him because of the tweet, they suspended him because of the grief they were getting about it.
Hounded into a decision by people on social media is not a correct basis for making a decision.

Given the circumstances (Gary Walsh would never have foreseen the furore that his tweet caused) I think that Laois Co Board could have been more protective of the player and arranged his temporary withdrawal from the panel rather than a suspension. Yes, his tweet was very foolish but it was probably a bravado outburst for the benefit of his friends and certainly not intended for a nationwide audience. The vitriolic abuse he had suffered plus missing out on the Div 4 Final is more than enough punishment.

Louth (and Pete McGrath) can do Down a favour and beat Meath - Down would then stay up if they beat Tipp - am I correct ?
If both Meath and Down win then Down on 6 points same as Cork - Down relegated on head to head rule ?

It's a pity to read coarse language on a Laois GAA Forum or indeed any GAA Forum - surely any literate person can make their point without resorting to profanities. People that might normally be inclined to contribute to this forum would be put off by this juvenile behaviour.

I remember Huey from the Laoistalk forum a number of years ago predicting Laois's decline - I had hoped he was wrong but he was proved right unfortunately.

We are in a transition at the moment - the experienced members of the panel are ageing whilst the younger element are being introduced in the modest level of Div 4.

Re. Carlow - they have upped their game and are no pushover these days - Dublin and Monaghan can attest to that.

Think of all the players with the similar length playing careers who step away quietly having had sufficient fulfilment from playing the game and representing their counties. They would have given the same dedicated service and made the same personal sacrifices as CC. Most would have enjoyed few if any medals, All Star awards, team holidays etc.

I think Colm Cooper's head has been turned by attending similar junkets for retired professional sportsmen like BOD.

Dont agree about Gaelic Football lads...have you ever watched the 70s and 80s videos of Kerry and the Dubs hoofing the ball up in the air and then seeing who can secure possession without being maimed???

It was the unpredictability of the game, the 50/50 balls, man to man aspect that made it more entertaining. Now most games would bore the hole off ya.

I couldn't agree more - there was no passing sideways and backwards. The man to man element is missing to a great extent today too.

In hurling you rarely see much ground hurling anymore - a great loss.

As the capital, Dublin should not be fixed in Leinster. Creates too much of an imbalance in what is already the largest province. Rotate them among all four provinces.

Better still...
Dublin NE - Ulster
Dublin NW - Connacht
Dublin SW - Munster
Dublin SE - Leinster

Rest in peace Georgie - you did a "Micko" for Laois hurlers back in the eighties and gave us some great days.

What I don't understand is why Laois conceded midfield without a fight - from early on a short kick out strategy was used. In Brendan Quigley and Kevin Meaney (should have started) we have fielders as good as any on their day. The foundation of our win Vs Longford was Quigley's midfield performance.

No real contest in Tullamore - despite an early Laois goal Kildare playing with the breeze got on top and were 7 points up at half-time.
Good crowd, perfect conditions but a very disappointing game. Kildare-Meath could be a cracker.

Apart from the activists and the NFL type supporters of the 6 teams does anyone anywhere care about these 3 games?

Gosh Rossfan - what's wrong with "NFL type supporters" ?

To answer your question - yes, genuine GAA supporters will have a real interest in the provincial championships as they progress.
Will Colin Kelly (a fine forward in his playing days) build on Louth's promotion to Division 2 ?
Could Johnny Magee's Wicklow pull off a shock ?  They were not too far off against Meath & Laois in Round 1 in recent years.
How will Wexford fare under Banty ?
Some signs of improvement in Carlow's fortunes at underage in recent years - will it follow through to senior ?
Longford too had had good underage teams in recent years so will be very confident on Sunday.
Laois had a disastrous League so won't lack motivation.

To hell with the Joe Brolly types who look down their noses at the "lesser" counties.

Serious question, if the game was null and void, how was John O'Loughlin deemed to have served his suspension?

Armagh raised the 7th sub issue with CCCC behind the scenes (not out in the open).
I believe CCCC had a number of options including a replay and throwing Laois out.
If Laois were thrown out then Clare would have had bye in qualifier Round 2 - no benefit to Armagh.
At Armagh's behest the CCCC proposed that Laois would offer a replay and Laois Co Board agreed.
John O'Loughlin served his suspension in the first match - the game was played and only the result was null and void.

Armagh's cause wasn't helped by key players (Jamie Clarke) and key supporters (Tony Fearon) jumping ship  :-\

Can we play you,
Can we play you,
Can we play you every week,
CAN WE PLAY YOU EVVVVVVVERY WEEK.......

No, because you've obviously learnt to count.

Off with yiz to the CCCC now and see if your can find another loophole  ;)
Wasn't it cruel for Laois to hand you the game in the 2nd half and then snatch it back.
