Couldn't find the appropraite thread but this was closest. Read somewhere today that Cooper's Dr Crokes became the first Kerry team to beat Nemo in the Munster Championship. Is this true?
O'Neill, think it's the first time Nemo haven't won Munster when they were in the competition itself.

GAA Discussion / Re: Under 21 Delegates for Congress

You just turn up at Congress (in Kilkenny this time), say as little as possible and vote as the CB requires on motions. Not much else to it. No work involved at all. Was there last year.

QuoteA team is awarded a free kick, the player opts to take it from his hands, the player then kicks the ball and catches it again.  In essence the player has merely soloed it, is this legal and if so can a player kick a ball say 10 yards, catch it again before bouncing and be allowed to take the free kick again?

Regarding this earlier, I don't think there was any answer given. Would like to know the story on this, can the player kick the free forward the necessary distance, then retrieve it and continue playing?

Quoteand finally Ballina Stephenites, Ardnaree and Bonniconlon will be called Ballina Stephenites.
:D :D :D

Left out Ballagh' there I see. Presumably going back to their natural home in that case. :P

In the real world, Breaffy and Ballinrobe were relegated to Division 2 at the weekend, and the aforementioned Ballagh' will replace one of them in D1.

Not quite. The bottom four teams in Divisions 2A and 2B will be exiled to the TM Cup if they don't advance. Westmeath can't go out, and ye should be alright.

The one and the same, F'n Eddie himself. TG4 should get him to commentate if they get to the final. :o

Think my wagers on Ballyhale at 5/1 and Ballinderry at 18/1 don't look like bad value at the moment. Long way to go yet though.

Concur with all that has been already said, two great footballers who were a joy to watch (except when we were in the firing line!), and delivered on the big day. Galway will have a difficult job to replace them.

In Sligo, though neither are exactly great:

1) Sligo Weekender
2) Sligo Champion

Across the borders, Mayo News is quite good on the few occasions I've seen it, Western is pretty good also, can't speak for the Connacht Telegraph. Leitrim Observer is decent, no competition though. Ros Herald is reasonable, never read the Ros Champion.

Regarding radio, Ocean FM has to be one of the worst for local GAA coverage, of the rural stations. Compared to MidWest and it's own predecessor, NorthWest, well it's as one-sided as this year's AIF.

Rossie lads - wasn't Hugh Gibbons on the 43/44 team? He was the Doc's predecessor as an FF TD. Dan O'Rourke, former GAA President was another.

Incidentally, though not TD's, Brian McEniff and Mickey Kearins were both FF councillors in Donegal and Sligo at one time. Kearins contested an FF GE Sligo/Leitrim selection convention, but wasn't selected. Ray MacSharry got the nod instead, and didn't look back.

I've edited passedit's list, to include links to how they each fared out, via electionsireland.org.

Des Foley would be another, I think? Brother of Lar, was he on the Dubs team in the 60's, was an FF TD around the time.

HIB - Slab didn't play county AFAIK, played with Roche Emmets in Louth.

Stephenite,

Don't know whether he was any good, but Moffatt's predecessor as TD, Sean Calleary, won a Sligo SFC title in 1966, the last time Easkey (indeed any Tireragh side bar St. Pat's) were champions. OMS Sr. was on the losing side that day.

Another nominee would be Michael Donnellan's father, John, 1964 captain and FG TD in North Galway, and a Junior Minister at some stage. Indeed his grandfather was an AI winner and TD too.

Damn you dodo, beat me as I was typing!

Mind you, not all GAA personalities succeeded at the polls either. Eamon Cregan ran for FF in 1981, but lost heavily. Barney Rock (PD's) was a spectacular failure as well. Seamus Durack (FG) in Clare did badly too. Think Mick O'Connell was a losing candidate too. There are surely more to be found.
