The Div1, Div2, Div3, Div4 format has been in operation since 2008 - 12 years.
Just checked my own county - Laois were in Division 2 for 7 of those years, 2 years in Div1, 2 years in Div3 and 1 year in Div4.

Ross Munnelly played in Div1 final in 2003 (lost to Tyrone), Div2 final in 2011 (lost to Donegal), Div4 final 2018 (beat Carlow) and will probably play some part in 2019 Div3 final against Louth or Westmeath.

Great achievement to be promoted for two years in a row. I hope they avoid Westmeath in the final.

I hope we avoid Westmeath too but I do reckon they will come through (no fears of Westmeath if our lads play to their potential but it would be best to keep our powder dry until Leinster meeting).
Louth did us a huge favour by beating Down - if they had drawn or lost then it would most likely have been Down & Westmeath going up.
For that reason I would love to see Louth winning promotion.

Great outcome today - well done to the lads. In truth they should have won more comfortably given they were so much on top in the 2nd half.

The Louth-Westmeath game won't be meaningless for either team after all 😀

At the moment 5 teams are still in contention for promotion - Down, Westmeath, Laois, Louth, Longford.
Any of the above including Down could lose out depending how results pan out.
For example you could have a situation after next Sunday (and before Louth-Westmeath) where it's Down 10, Laois 9, Westmeath 8, Longford 8, Louth 8.

It's not right that the CCCC are allowing Round 7 games to be played before the postponed Louth-Westmeath game.
If all favourites win next Sunday then Down will be promoted and will be joined later by Westmeath who should win a game then meaningless for Louth.

It's galling to think that if Laois had played Louth at home and won they would have been in a position to secure promotion next Sunday.
And the Dubs got away without punishment because their trip to Normandy was to see the WWII beaches !

The consequences of the decision to long-finger the Louth-Westmeath has been highlighted on Hoganstand and elsewhere
- this match could possibly decide the top 2 positions and in that situation either Louth or Westmeath will have nothing to play for.

Scenario 1:  Louth, Longford and Laois win next Sunday
                  Westmeath would have nothing to play for in postponed game and a Louth win would deny Down promotion

Scenario 2:  Down, Westmeath and Laois win next Sunday
                  Louth would have nothing to play for in postponed game and a Westmeath win would deny Laois promotion

Longford would also be in the running for promotion if they beath Westmeath next Sunday.
The CCCC will be praying that results next Sunday will render Louth-Westmeath match meaningless, otherwise objections could be on the cards.

The Louth-Westmeath match should have been scheduled prior to completion of Round 7.

I would be more of an onlooker/lurker than a regular poster here.

Does anyone know why it was not possible to reschedule the postponed Louth-Westmeath match for yesterday or today ?
This was done with Clare-Meath in Div2 yesterday.

Round 7 matches are all fixed for same time, 2pm, next Sunday and all finals schedule for following weekend.
I'm guessing the postponed Louth-Westmeath match will be played next weekend and Round 7 games in Div3 the following weekend

All fair-minded Laois supporters, though a bit jealous of our neighbour's success in football and hurling, would have nothing but admiration for what they achieved over the years.

The GAA Master Fixtures Schedule 2019 on GAA.ie shows Laois away to Down on Sat 26-Jan but on Hoganstand and elsewhere it shows Offaly V Laois on Jan-27.

Why?

Our county's name is Laois. I asked nicely, there was no attempt to rile you or anyone.

Like it or not the name Leix is part of our heritage and was in common use up the 1960s (as was Maryborough).
The great Laois team of the 1930s would have been called Leix at the time.
When Laois GAA people refer to our county as Leix, e.g. C'mon Leix, you can take it that they are using it as a term of affection.

The profile of Team Manager really took off with Heffo and Micko in the 1970s - prior to then a county would always have had a coach/trainer and selectors but might not necessarily have had a front man.
Before 1981 the previous Leinster Final appearance by Laois was 1968. I'm curious as to who was manager/coach/trainer of that team and also the men who took charge in the years from then up to Tom Darcy's reign. Was former Laois & Meath footballer Tom Browne one of those ?

I've put 3 stars against Kiernan Brennan and Mick O'Dwyer for their roles in winning National League and Leinster Championship respectively.

It's difficult to rate managers of the 80s and 90s against those of 2000-2018 given how team preparation became more professional but Justin McNulty would be my 3rd favourite Laois manager.

John Sugrue have certainly made a good start but he has a huge task to emulate Kieran or Micko.

Did you see Ross Munelly, Tom Kelly or Joe Higgins in 2003? Or Tom Prendergast? Or Colm Browne? Or Liam Irwin? Or Barney Maher?

As far as I'm concerned, Donie is one of 15 Laois players who will take the field on Sunday. He deserves the same respect as all the rest of them and hopefully he will play a significant role.  Win or lose, all 15 will play a big part.

And I can assure you, he will need both his arms on Sunday.

I do like this management's style - horses for courses. I'm very happy wth Ross's selection and I think Glynn has been chomping at the bit too.
It's not just a fifteen man game so it's no bad reflection on the lads not starting - it's great to have quality players on the bench.
