GAA Discussion / Re: Marsden's back!

No doubt a "stylish" team like Tyrone would have no problems beating unconvincing teams like Dublin and Armagh, odd then that their most recent AI was won having gone to a replay against Dublin and by a 72nd minute soft free against Armagh. Yes Tyrone won two AI finals, but against teams that had won the AI the previous year and who were never going to be at full tilt the second year. You only have to look at the dismal performance of the "stylish" Tyrone in the years after the won the AI to see how a team is likely to perform the year after they won the AI.

QuoteWhere are the corporate entitys and the Prawn sandwich brigade during the winter NFL campaigns.

The point is that a significant proportion of those at winter NFL games will be glad to source a ticket at €70, without having to go on to EBay to buy one, because of the system of distributing tickets.

As for promoting games, there is a lot of sense in letting kids in and in initiatives like the floodlight Dublin-Tyrone game. Some effort should be made to interest the made people around on Paddy's day in the Club finals.

Quote70 euros is some price for the final, especiallly if you followed the county throughout the year

there's plenty of people in 30 counties who followed their county throughout the year in who would be glad of the opportunity to support them in the final.

The only observation is that they should make good seats €65 and Davin End etc €65.

Donaldson actually played quite well today and showed a reasonable turn of speed for the oldest member of the Cross team. And if he overplayed the incident, as a gentle fellow himself, he probably has had experience of people diving when coming into minimal contact with him.

Happy Chinese New Year, Win Sam Soon!!!  ;D

Moy has been annexed by Armagh, it was all part of the deal involving the PSNI coming into Crossmaglen.

There was a GAA supporters handbook, from the Sunday World or somewhere. However this had errors placing Casement Park down near the Royal Victoria, perhaps confusing it with something on O'Neill's map. There is scope for a website/book with this information and sponsored by pubs etc in the locality who want to direct you to their eating facilities and so on.

GAA Discussion / Re: Stevie McDonnell - Leave Me Alone

There are eejits supporting every county. Armagh has a comparatively good support and so no doubt gets a good share of the eejit community too. I expect what happened here was a couple of foulmouths sitting beside Stevies mother or girlfriend who were not as thick skinned as the two Brian's. Stevie was annoyed that they were annoyed, so to speak, and the Irish news is able to fill up their columns with this stuff.

QuoteWho do you think he is targeting this at?

Well he might mean the other 8 counties, who dilute their teams by not playing university players just because the Ulster council say they should. Or maybe he means Monaghan who allowed themselves be beaten. Or maybe Armagh, who obviously could win it if they wanted to, but who prefer that other Ulster cup named after a mere newspaper that is awarded in the summer.

GAA Discussion / Re: Ulster SFC final set for Clones

Great for Clones. Do we need another Ulster final not in Croker thread?
#17608
As you can't have a Donegal/Armagh/Tyrone combination Croke Pk isn't needed anyway, only Armagh and Down would get a biggish crowd and while Armagh might reach the final Down are hardly likely to be still in the championship at that stage.

I've said this on another thread, the money should go to founding/supporting clubs in areas with rapidly increasing population, Rathbourne, Adamstown, or the type of place where the schools are overflowing. The Dept of Education, councils etc haven't always provided for these legions of kids, but if the GAA does we'll have strong new GAA areas in a few years. Some attention might also be given to areas where the GAA has a low proportion of sporting activity in the area.

General discussion / Re: Rome
February 12, 2007, 11:35:20 PM
When in Rome do as the Romans do......

One observation about Rome is that the market economy is broken, perhaps owing to Mafia or suchlike. if you go to a vendor near a major site you will pay ridiculous amounts for things, €6 for a can of coke or a €8 ice cream. Walk one block away and you get regular prices. This may be true to some extent in other cities, but in Paris or Madrid you pay 25% more outside the museum, in Rome you'll pay 300% more.

www.venere.it is a good site for Italian hotels.
