10) Lee Keegan - Westport
11) Richie Feeney - Castlebar Mitchels

Have these boys ever played in the forwards in their lives?

Crazy stuff. Modern management eh?

Makes it easier for a weak Kerry half back line when they are marking Mayo half backs.

You do understand the concept of sweepers, right!?

Naming two half-backs and half-forwards is invariably about strengthening defense at the expense of offense.

Mayo do not have a marquee forward in the class of an O'Neill, Cooper or Bernard Brogan.

Playing with four recognised forwards instead of six and further reducing your scoring threat seems like shooting yourself in the foot somewhat.

Dublin team is miles off full strength, Cork pretty much full. Cork are a better team than Dublin when both full, Cork a far superior League side. Whatever the outcome there's no way in hell Dublin should be favourites, hence Cork are superb value at the price.

I think you're giving Cork too much credit. They may win this game, but they are a stale team.

Cork are the value this weekend by a mile.

You make a good case for adding Fermanagh (5/4) to the treble and making it a 3/1 of

Tyrone
Fermanagh
England
France

Will mull broodily over the decision of whether to add Fermanagh to the mix

Cork
Kerry
Laois
Tyrone
Man United
England
France

£10 gets £153 back

7 teams in the accum? Open bin, throw money in.

No more than 4 in accumulator and soccer betting is a mug's game.

Banker 4/5

Tyrone
England
France

Treble

Tyrone is the only one I'd be fairly confident of, Dublin should beat Cork but you wouldn't bank on it. Donegal have a strong team you wouldn't how much they've been doing tho.

Kerry have a weak half back and half forward line, I'd be leaning towards a Mayo win but you couldn't bank on that either.

Clare 2/5 v Waterford at home first League game under Micko should win, but again you couldn't bank it.

My guesses in Div 1 would be

Kildare
Tyrone
Mayo
Dublin

but Tyrone the only one I'd be confident of.

Therefore!

Tyrone
England
France

Throw on £50 get back £40 at 4/5 .

Hold the powder dry for a bigger bet next weekend.

Disagree. They're a team going nowhere fast. No new blood apart from Cahalane really, whole thing looks very stale.

I don't believe Mayo are contenders. For Mayo 2012 , read Down 2010. Difficult to win an All Ireland without a marquee forward

So Benny Coulter and Martin Clarke werent marquee forwards???
In Downs case it was difficult to win an All Ireland when your management were inept at making the correct changes to hold on to a lead.

Of course they were. I was just referring to Mayo with that comment.

I'll be surprised if Mayo make All Ireland in 2013, let alone win it.

Didn't think it was too bad.

One interesting feature was the way they seemed to use footage from camera phones during various celebrations that may have been posted on Youtube. Would they have had to contact those Donegal fans to use this material or can a TV station simply show Youtube footage without recourse?

What is America's Game referred to a few posts above?

I was only debating this one with a fella in Kerry this week.

He contended that Paudge Quinn had moved to wing forward by the time he scored that goal. I disagreed and said that Paidi marked Quinn all through and saw no reason why they would have changed as 1) Quinn I don't think was causing any major trouble up to that point and 2) players in those day tended to stick to positions more rigidly than the fluid nature of today's positions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9PKpElvjpc

If you look at the video there at 1 minute 43 seconds Plunkett Donaghy launches the long ball. Sean Walsh, Kerry full-back abandons his man Damien O'Hagan to try and win the catch. The ball is missed by Walsh and another Kerry player and a Tyrone player and falls to O'Hagan. It is then a two on one situation with Paidi having to decide between approaching O'Hagan and abandoning his own man Quinn.

So that myth is debunked in my view.

One thing I am wondering though is why Quinn was wearing number 13 and clearly playing left corner forward (13 is traditionally the jersey of the right corner forward. You can also see him and Paidi in close proximity in parts of the first half)

Anyone know why this was the case? Art McRory ahead of his time tactically?

And who was Tyrone numer 10?

11 Eugene McKenna 12 Sean McNally 13 Paudge Quinn 14 Damien O'Hagan 15 Mickey Mallon

Quote from: blanketattack on December 04, 2012, 12:43:38 PMSo kicking someone in the ankle and putting your arm around their neck to swing them to the ground isn't aggressive?
That was just one of many aggressive tackles on Gooch that the referee (and cameraman) failed to spot.

And would have come down on Cooper's shoulder with his knee more than likely had he not realised that the earlier kick to the ankle and the swing to the ground had had their desired effect.

Castlehaven were an absolute disgrace on Sunday.

Hope that Eamon Sweeney, sports writer with The Sunday Independent, who has written several misty-eyed articles about Castlehaven, deigns to write an article condemning their approach on Sunday.

Unfit, overweight, tactically naive, filthy.

If I were from Cork, I would have had a long look into my pint on Sunday evening.

Castlehaven and Kilcoo could play some kind of Losers round where the loser could be kicked out of club football for good. Castlehaven were an absolute disgrace in Cork yesterday

We shouldn't overlook the fact that Crokes looked pretty impressive yesterday.  They'll also get an extra game against Tir Chonaill Gaels (not Tir Na nOg as the Crokes player thought).  I think they'll go close this year.

True, but Castlehaven were the level of a poor intermediate team in Kerry.
