MARC Sports has just announced the launch of a novel "Scrappage Scheme" for Hurling Helmets, due to be rolled out nationwide over the coming weeks. Details of the scheme were outlined at a press conference in GAA Headquarters, Croke Park, where the company also unveiled current All-Star, Joe Canning as its newest brand ambassador.

The Scrappage Scheme, which will run until February 21st 2010, will enable players to "scrap" any make or model of helmet, with or without a faceguard, and receive a discount off a new MARC IS355 certified Helmet. In addition, MARC Sports' chosen children's charity, Make-A-Wish®, Ireland; will receive a donation for every Helmet that is scrapped.

Mark Ganly founder of MARC Sports, commented, "In recent months, the announcement of the compulsory wearing of protective headgear in hurling at all levels, sparked a great deal of debate and discussion. Much of the discussion focused on the transition for non-helmet wearing players. However, while this is an important point, it wasn't the only aspect that needed to be addressed. There are numerous players, throughout the country wearing old helmets, in unsafe and poor condition. This initiative will enable players to scrap their old helmet; purchase an IS355 certified helmet at a reasonable price and in addition, contribute to a worthy charity – Make-A-Wish." MARC Sports will reduce the price of their helmet from €75 to €60 for any helmet scrapped during this period.

Speaking about the first ever scrappage scheme run for hurling helmets, Director General of the GAA, Paraic Duffy commented "MARC Sports is to be commended for launching this innovative scheme, which will ultimately increase the safety of our playing members. The IS355 approved Hurling Helmet is an important standard for the use of helmets and we wish MARC Sports every success with this campaign."

Not a bad Idea, if it reduces the cost of helmets

With the weather as bad as it is, i'm looking for a 3 G pitch to arrange games on.  any help would be great

Claudy, bout 9 mles from Dungven have one. Why not book out the meadowbank in Magherafelt. I know from talking to the guy who runs it that stpius and the convent have both played games there and he told me a few clubs used it for friendly games as well. Definetly as big as a full sze pitch

Dont know if Nibbles would stick it thou, he would proabley get injured again!!!

Superstar, we have always run our own camp, during the week we have our own senior players with the help of several teachers/parents to coach during the week. We run it in the run up to our festival of hurling each year where all the lads play on the pitch during the weekend. As regards the gear, we always give all the kids a hurling ball each, along with a club t-shirt. The t-shirt is o'neills and this year we dealt with gaakit in North Antrim instead of o'neills direct, which worked out very well in regards of reliablity and i think it was cheaper. T-shirts worked out between £12-£15.

Milk was a shit hole before it became rain and im sure it is still a shit hole.

Bouncers are belfast are bollock's but there are a few good ones, was in roost one night, and bouncer decided to put me out,i was sobber and just in, walking back from the toilet and not bothering anyone!!! When i got to the door wit him, the other chap who was working, who was watching the whole thing, told your man to catch him sel on and stop acting the bollocks and went and bought me a drink to appologies for the other man on a ego trip!!! :-\ :-\
Never had any other bother in there. Pothouse and Ollie had their we phases of being hard to get into but think there handy enough to get into, the pounce brigade must have moved onto rain

I've also sent ont a couple of ideas to Owenbeg so he will bring them to the committee

I'm sure some people would pay big money for you to be involved in one !

Joe did compare for our star in their eyes last year while eoghan was on the judging panel along with Paul McCloskey, Alison Feliming, UTV and Mary Dillon a local singer.

Brolly was some value when he was chatting to eoghan but was brilliant all nite
