That's Championship ball. Sometimes you get the luck of the draw. Sometimes you make your own luck.

Connacht and Munster will always have the luck of the draw in your system.

I agree with keeping of Provincial championships. Previously the reward of winning it was entering the last 4 of the AI. Now the reward is entering the last 8 of the AI. Making it to last 16 would further reduce the reward of winning a Provincial championship and take out some of the injustice in the system.

The reward of winning a provincial championship is surely the medal in your back pocket and sense of achievement you get from succeeding in reaching your goals after months of hard work and bonding with your team. Getting into the provincial club championship isn't a 'reward' for winning a county championship in my opinion, knowing you are the best team in your county for that year and seeing your picture on the wall in the club is the reward, getting another crack at another trophy with the best teams from other counties is just the icing on the cake. Even if Down had qualified for the last sixteen I'd still be disappointed and pi**ed off if they managed to go out at the quarter final stage to any team, regardless of who it was against.

I agree fully. I meant the additional reward it had with relevancy to the All Ireland series.

Sorry, misread your post!

White goodman, your right about most fullbacks in the county are at that, that's why there's no good defenders in the County. The point are a bit green but I read today they started with 11 under 21 players from last year so experience will come.being cute is one thing doesn't excuse the Burren number 5 from putting the boot into a man on the ground and the Burren manager swinging elbows

One day you commented the other day that you seen the point ran Burren close, followed up with asking Elk what he thought of Burren corner back tactics and then above you saying Burren No5 was kicking a man on the ground and that the Burren manager was swinging elbows???

For someone who only seen the result you are doing some slabbering!!!

I for one would certainly not read into Kilcoo's form at all.

entertaining, be pleasantly surprised. Have you not noticed both teams have been playing with 14 men behind the ball in the NFL. Are you expecting something different?

Looks like somebody has been reading the columns of Calm O'Rourke.

GAA Discussion / Re: Is football training fun?
May 20, 2015, 05:18:23 PM
It depends on the manager. Some incorporate fitness training into ball drills so you're distracted from the fact that you're doing running drills. The pure running drills are absolutely sh*te though. You feel great once you've got home and into the shower however.

Not going to get involved in a the ridiculous title of this thread more of a side note.

Was it just me or was there a feeling that all three of the pundits on the live shown has been preprogrammed not to be negative about football in general. All three sounded more upbeat that usual about the state of football and its future, maybe this was just because it was the opening weekend on the TV but it definitely to me felt like there was a concerted effort not be negative.

Yeah they were definitely more positive but Spillage found it hard at times. They had spent two minutes talking about the wind being far worse than it looked on TV and applauding them for playing in the conditions, when possession stats etc show up on the screen (with no mention of passes) and Spillage brought out his old favourite, the kickpass to handpass ratio. As if they were going to kick the ball a lot on a day like that.

I agree 100% WGM. We were lucky to escape with no reds against Burren. But I'm delighted to see our lads standing up to the (so called) big guns of Down football and not being messed about. We did the same against Rostrevor who started a melee down there in the first game of the league. We did the same to Kilcoo in the last game of the season last year. For far too long we have had a 2nd division mentality and we kowtowed to the aristocracy of Down club football. Those days are over.
What a load of bolli-s!

Karl Lacey at 30 years of age giving up work to concentrate on playing an amateur sport is just plain ridiculous.

Mindboggling. WIth an AI medal already secured Karl should be looking at the realities of life and getting a career for himself

Although I don't really think it's the best message to be sending out about the game, he hasn't actually given up work. He has finished his masters and is taking this summer off like a lot of students do at the end of their course (admittedly not at 30 years of age however).

I have a feeling this man has it in for Shane Mulholland. And seems to know a lot about what's happening in Down development teams.Obviously this man is here to slate the minor management with the hope of pushing him out.Are u involved in the under 17 coaching staff by any chance?Or maybe a division 1 mid table team? And a disgusting comment about one of out most dedicated players of all time.If I was the minor management team I would keep an eye out for the back stabbers.Ive a feeling this poster is managing a team below you and wants your job!

I can't see comments on GAA Board getting a county minor manager sacked.

Roscommon to win because Down can't seem to cope with bigger, more physical teams at the minute.

Apart from our FB line our team resembles a Schools team such is their youth! Never been a terribly physical team. The team is based much more around pace than power.

Seemed big enough to me when you played us in Newry!
