GAA Discussion / Tommy Griffin retires..
January 17, 2012, 09:09:14 PM
..I think it says a lot about the standard of Kerry football and their achievements whenever a man like this with 5 All Ireland medals in his arse pocket retires and it doesnt even warrant a mention on here ........until now ;)

Should have had an All Star in 2009 and a few of my Kerry mates would tell you he would have nailed McMenamin in the AIF last year before he scored THAT goal.

Great servant to Kerry football...he'd be a superstar and an All Time Great in any other county :-\

This deserves a thread of its own...

My friends in Kerry tell me Séamus Moynihan has played his last game of football. Today was his last game for Glenflesk at 38 years of age....legend...his record speaks for itself.

4 All Irelands, 9 Munster Championships, 4 National Leagues, 2 Munster Under 21 Championships, 1 Munster minor championship, 1 Raleway Cup. 3 All Stars, Player of the Year, Ireland Captain.

Outside of intercounty 4 Sigerson Cups with UCC and Tralee. 3 County Championships, 1 Club Championship and 5 East Kerry Championships.

What a player...

One of the lads in the Irish News today was writing about the first World Cup he remembers. Got me thinking.

What's the earliest sporting occasion you remember?

Mine is sitting with my da watchin the 1970 World Cup Final in b&w.

...not Luvbug or Hugo Duncan...but the 1st real rock/pop band you saw live...one that was in the charts when you went to see them..time to embarrass your self lads...

Mine was Howard Jones, Avoniel Leisure Centre in 1983 (I think) :-\ :-[ :-[ :-[

Have to say I stepped up to the mark 2 years later with The Boss in Slane... :)

General discussion / Rugby rules.

Sorry for startin a new thread lads but I can't find a better home for it.

I'm a distant admirer of the egg chasing fraternity...I was up like everyone else roaring the hoors on this morning...but....some of the rules and the way the game is played baffles me. Can any of you experts out there give us an oul fool's guide to some of the more mysterious elements of the game...btw...they are tough fcukin men :-\

Specifically..
What's a ruck and what's a maul?
Why does the full back/out half/scrum half kick the fcukin thing up in the air instead of keeping possession?
Why do players not go block a kick the way we do???? Hands tight over the kickers foot.
Offside??? wtf.

Thats only the start. Thanks in advance.

Alternatively I could ask the Wobbler but he has his hands full these days... :-\ :-\

Now that we have King Henry the 8th...and a few Kerry lads up there as well  ;), Doyle and Ring with 8 a piece as well. Shefflin could be the only player ever to get 9 if KK make it next year.....

...thread idea stolen from AFR.

Mine is the Brazen Head in Glasgow....one of the boys in our company asked for a slice of lemon in his girlfriend's gin (I know I know....what was she doing there in the 1st place) and was asked "Lemon?? Lemon!!! Where the f**k do you think you are?"

Now that we have secured 1st division status we can relax now and enjoy our trips to BÁC and Cill Áirne.

The Dublin outing will be a great occasion with the Cats and the Jacks on beforehand at half 5 before the main event. ;)

After seeing Mayo scoring 3 goals against the Dubs I'm beginning to wonder if there is a chink in the Dublin armour (no sniggering at the back there) which Marty, Benny, Danny and Co can exploit.

Who will we get to handle BB...

Really looking forward to this one....

Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive ins and Dives has the best job in the world :'( :'(

Love that show...

Forget about Giada, Nigella, Jamie, etc, etc, this is the best......the grub looks spectacular....

Footnote...this in no way takes away from the fact that Nigella Lawson is simply the dirtiest, dirtiest lookin woman on the telly now that Carol Vorderman has gone....

February 21, 2011, 10:39:39 AM
Big crowd expected next Saturday night for the visit of our neighbours.

Our boys will need to eradicate some of the basic errors evident in the last two games if they want to come away with two points.....some of our passing yesterday was piss poor..high balls into Conor Lavery?? :-\

We are stumbling along and picking up points without Benny firing on all cylinders yet.

Hope he kicks into gear on Saturday.

November 12, 2010, 09:28:07 PM
...it doesnt matter what language....

Mine is "gliondar".....I was watching Joe Connolly on Reeling in the Years 1980 and that wonderful speech.  It means a wee bit more than happy...typical Irish word...hard to translate but you know what it means....

Apologies if there is another thread started but I can't find it so here goes.

Who is nailed on at the minute?
Who blew their chances in the quarter finals?
Who needs to do what in the semis to get one?

I'll get my own thoughts up later.
