Well boys and girls.

How will ye be voting next month?

On one hand I can see what we need to get rid of this shower as 99% of them are goms, only university graduates plus politicans and a few others get a vote etc but on the other hand there have been good Senators in the past (Lady Norris, Fergal Quinn, WB Yeats) and I can see why one would vote to keep things as they are.

Do you believe abolition will save 20 mill per annum? I don't. The so-called savings will just get sucked into the big cesspit that is Leinster House.

Anyhoo have your say on this ifin you like.

Lads.

As some of ye know Philip Chevron has terminal cancer. Philip was a member of The Radiators from Space and when they finished in the early 80s completed the classic Pogues line-up.

Philip is a great songwriter and has written at least three or four classics

Ballad of the Faithful Departed
Under Clery's Clock
Thousands are Sailing
Television Screen

Anyhoo there is a benefit gig in The Olympia on Aug 24 in which a shed load of Irish artists are scheduled to appear including:

Horslips
Paul Brady
Mary Coughlan
Duke Special
Shane McGowan (don't bet on that)
Luka Bloom
Hothouse Flowers

etc

As far as I know tickets go on sale tomorrow morning from Ticketbastard.

So if you want to hear some great music then this is the place to be, I think!

Just getting the thread started.

Cannot see too many pundits predicting anything other than a Wexford win.

Longford will have to play to the maximum to win this one. Wexford are a good Qualifier team and will look at the Div 2 match in Feb when they came back from a 7 point deficit to beat Longford in Wexford which was the start of Longford's "wheels off the wagon" run.

I cannot see Mickey Quinn back but his clubmate, Padraig McCormack, did a good job as his replacement at CHB, for the Limerick qualifier.

However the Limerick challenge was poor so it will be a 'different kettle of fish' for the game in 2 weeks time.

Barring injuries I expect the same starting 15 or perhaps the impressive Niall Mulligan to start instead of Foy. OK - I'll go with Mulligan

My team:

Damien Sheridan

Dermot Brady
Barry Gilleran
Declan Reilly
Barry O'Farrell
Padraig McCormack
Shane Mulligan

John Keegan
Michael Brady

Bernard McElvaney
Paul Barden
Niall Mulligan
Francis McGee
Sean McCormack

Oh the excitement.

I believe the Kildare side is basically the U21 side that didn't make the senior panel.

I have no idea who or what makes up our side. Perhaps it's a South Longford All Star team made up of the Ardaghs, Forgneys, Grattans and Mostrim.

If so, Kildare by a million points  :P

Any of the Kildare boys ambling in after the shopping is done on Wed week?

Shur I'll have to go........

June 8 2013 is a historical day for Longford GAA as our senior hurlers face Warwickshire in the Lory Meagher final.

This is the first time our senior hurlers have graced the sacred sod.

Good luck to the lads and well done to the tireless behind the scenes men who battle against all the odds in a county not noted for its prowess with the hurl.

Honest predictions only:

Longford - Leinster - beat Wicklow - beat Meath. Lose semi final
AIQs - win round 2, lose in round 3.

Ah - it's that time of the year when we get a day out in the sun/less cold.

Both teams had a torrid League - with both getting relegated. Longford had a bad run of luck in the League and lost more than one game that they really should have won. Confidence may be low having only won one competitive game in 2013 (agin UCD IN O'Byrne Cup) so management will have their work cut out in getting the minds focussed.

On paper Longford should have enough to get through this. There will be a few U21s coming into the side and there is a strong backbone of experience. However full back Barry Gilleran will be missing as he has a one match suspension to serve (picked up a straight red in the last league game aganst Louth). Brian Kavanagh is unavailable and Paul Barden may not have recovered full fitness from a series of injuries.

Many a team has gone to Aughrim and come home with the tail between the legs so all is not certain.

Winners play Meath at home so if that is not incentive enough I don't know what is.

Stay tuned for challenge results and team news ahead of this clash of Leinster titans!

Anyone here switch to Sky to replace eircom as the home phone and broadband supplier.

The prices look very competitive and there could be major savings if my sums are correct. Eircom costs us €150 every 2 months. Sky may 'only' cost €100 every two months.

If one has switched do you regret it? Is the service what you expected?

Any horror stories?

General discussion / Wii console question
March 23, 2013, 02:25:58 PM
I don't have a baldy about wii consoles but thinking of getting a new telly. New telly doesn't have a scart input. So how would I connect the childrens' wii console if we purchase the one we're thinking of?

Can it be connected using HDMI?

Looking forward to this one and our first couple of points having lost narrowly to Wexford and Westmeath.

I hope to travel up - the Mrs and the childer can so some shopping now sterling is toilet paper again.

Perhaps I'll meet Dougal beforehand for a coffee and a chat in some local hostelry.

AFAIK Longford will remain unchanged from the last day but more anon

Lads and lassies

Can anyone recommend some windows basedsoftware to prepare monthly payroll for a small NI company.

I want something simple and efficient and one that will upload via the interwebs the monthly and annual returns to UK Revenue online, print payslips on plain paper and/or email pdf versions

I dont like Sage as there is all this roll over and roll back bullshit that annoys me as it's easy to lose track.

Drop me a pm if you prefer and I will, if required, return the favour if anyone needs ROI payroll/tax/accounts advice.

WTF?

Breaking news!

Aside from the predictable burger jokes can anyone point to where Shergar is buried - or is he still working in a 7-11 with Elvis?

I remember the day well when the news came in. Seemingly the Gardaí started checking car boots and lofts looking for the horse.

All anecdotal evidence points to the horse going mental and being shot after a day or so and buried in Leitrim - but nothing was ever found to back this up.

I am sure the forum would share in sending Kate some birthday wishes today.

I think Ding Dong Denny O'Reilly nails it on the head in his latest offering:

And no - if you want to see the 'real' thing google is your friend (I'm sure)

GAA Discussion / O'Byrne Cup 2013
October 16, 2012, 10:24:35 PM
I have been told the draw has been made for the above - but I cannot find it officially.

I hear there are groupings in the 2013 competition with Longford in with Laois, Meath and a college in one group
Doesn't make sense to me if it's 3 games and then onto a semi final or something.

There will be no time to fit it all in.

Also - what would happen the much coveted bihatimber competition?

Lads

Time to get the ball rolling. I won't be there as I will be away on 'vacation' in the USA but I will try and get coverage on Shiteside on the Interwebs.

I'd imagine Longford will name an unchanged side again. Not aware of any injuries picked up in the League matches played since we lost to Wexford.

Derry looked well out of sorts against Donegal but this is a different game against non-Ulster opponents and Derry may up their game to show that they are better than what we all saw the last day.

I hope, of course, home advantage will favour Longford and that we come out on top. Hope the terraces are cleared of the abandoned cars, halting sites and dead greyhounds for the Derry folk.

Whatever the result I hope it's a good game and that the Derry folk that travel are well looked after. Eamon Coleman is still fondly remembered in Longford.
