The president isn't a volunteer position Eamonn, you get paid whatever your getting paid in your normal job for the duration of your presidency.

Is it always like that? I thought it was only done for Christy Cooney for some reason.

Sean McCague was the first one as it was felt the role became too big to do while doing a full time job

Benny, he is not so out of kilter with a lot of the counties we have played. Some of the abuse dished out off the sideline is a disgrace. One county in particular are vile.

John Mitchel's v Fullen Gaels in the hurling final in Birmingham on Sunday. Fullen must be favourites after their County final win and strengthening further since.

PnH at 1.30. Surprised they have sent it to us but pleased. Mitchel's of Birmingham should be gutted. There was an All Britain there this year.

While I think a 20 game league would be difficult to run and not likely to be successful in terms of fulfilling fixtures etc. linking counties is the way to go in Britain. Bar London I'm not sure there is a single county which can provide all it's clubs with a decent season. There are obvious logistical problems linking some counties and some counties would need it more than others but the key to British GAA is constant development and that doesn't always happen.

Can anyone list the active underage clubs in Yorkshire and Lancashire? Do the U12 ABC champions, St. Brendans, come from Lancashire?
No they are Warwickshire. I think the Warwickshire clubs get a decent amount of games.

Is this leading into another thread where Kerry Mike or AZ are going to have to explain the structures of Kerry club football?

IMHO the best way to run club championship football. I understand it but couldn't be arsed explaining it.

John Egan was captain in 82 when the wheels fell off on the 5 in a row. His club, Sneem,
is a small junior club. He was part of a successful divisional team. As was Ambrose Donovan and Darren  Sullivan and most famously Páidí Sé in 85.
I think Ambrose O'Donovan was nominated by Dr Crokes as surprisingly although they won the Championship they had nobody on the county panel that year.

Warwickshire Hurlers in first ever League final
05 April 2012

The Warwickshire Hurling squad Warwickshire V Fermanagh
Sunday 15th April at 2pm in Parnell Park, Dublin

Warwickshire Hurlers have reached the National League Final 3B in their first ever year in the competition.

The lads would appreciate support from all corners of Ireland and the UK from their families, club mates and past players of Warwickshire club's.

Players from Erin go Bragh, Fullan Gaels and John Mitchel's began training together on Sunday 8th January. Preparations were rounded off with an intense challenge match V Napier University of Scotland.

The League Campaign began away to Fermanagh in early March. Despite top performances from Mike Cremin in goal, Cormac Behan sweeping up at No6, Eamonn Cahill when introduced on the square and Michael Ivors at No15 Fermanagh held on for a one point victory.

Home advantage in our second game aided a comprehensive victory as the travelling Longford failed to come to grips with the game. With Michael Bermingham and James Djemba Dwyer taking control of midfield right from the off the Warwick forwards began to run riot with goals from Conall Maskey, Emmet McCabe and John Bergin. The influence of David Neylon and Ruairi Wedel on the full back line and kieran Boxwell on the 40m line kept Longford to a minimum of 5points. Dwayne Sheedy and Kieran Courtney played as effective link players between puck outs and Warwick attacks. Johnny Boxwell and Seamie Brough came on to ensure a strong finish sweeping up behind midfield.

In what was effectively the League semi final we started slowly against Leitrim. Daire Maskey settled nerves with an early goal but Leitrim still put us under pressure. Chris Brough quietened Leitrim's main player and with Niall McNamee cleaning up on the full back line and Peter Healy growing into the centre back position Warwickshire recorded a 10point win in 2nd gear. John o Shea and Brendan Griffins came on in the second half to keep the pressure on a resilient home team.

The players, management team of Stephen Ahern, John Bergin; backroom team of Cathal Casey,John Gardiner, Jennifer Savage and Connie O'Donnell ask you to make every effort to come and support us on the day (If you are passing through Kildare pick up some white flags)......

Lads he's hardly clambering onto a coffin-ship.
No need for the mournful farewells.

exactly, f**ks sake lads, he's heading to the states on the sauce for a few months, he had a job here. No doubt clubs are hugely hit, but this emigration does get hyped up. The irish indo had a rubbish article, this is the best they could come up with:

Niall Corkery (Dublin)

Brian White, Mick Fanning, John O'Brien (Louth)

Tommy Freeman (Monaghan)

tommy freeman went away for the summer for gods sake, and the them 3 louth lads, god knows how many times i've read about them coming or going. The gaa at county level is hardly badly hit

Stephen Ormsby the Roscommon corner back is moving to Warwickshire

Colonel, where you at the game?  was it any good?

I was at the game and London started very well while Lancashire were very poor in the first 20/25 mins losing 8 points to no score but woke up to score 4 unanswered points before half time. The 2nd half was more even with Lancs not quite having enough to win.

ended up going to the 'irish centre' in digbeth! wish i had taken your advice! twas no more irish! went in and they had england v japan on the big screen! then at 4 they put GAA on. end of donegal game followed by Cork game. no volume from rte just Britains got talent in the background! at the same time there was a boxing tournament on next door! so there was boxers and entourage going in and out during the first half! very distracting and frightening!! the signal wasnt great at all and every so often it would just freeze. ended up missing aisakes goal over it!! anyway next time i will either be watching the game in thurles or failing that- hall green!! yeah i played hurling and football at home but havent played since moved over here. havent any car so its hard and am living in stafford so not too close to any team..

We have lads in Wolverhampton so we could probaly arrange something. E mail me on mitchelshurlers@blueyonder.co.uk and we can chat.

There would be a few around digbeth but not much atmosphere a 3 or 4 mile taxi drive to Vaughans might be worth it if your watcing the hurling tomorrow as there would be a good few hurling lads from both counties.
