Neil mcgee maybe?

Vicious McGee, dig in the ribs McGee. Stamp on your ankle McGee...his supporters would say..."he may be a bastard...but he's our bastard."

And so we meet again. Two evenly matched sides - either capable of beating the other.

McGee, probably the dirtiest defender in Ulster since Gerry McCarville, misses out but it won't make much of a difference. Expecting a better display from Monaghan than last year's Ulster Final.

If there's going to be a surprise in Ulster, this game will most likely give it.

Donegal come through and there'll all narrow favourites/underdogs.

Went into the game thinking that there wasn't a major gulf in class between the two teams and an upset wasn't far fetched. We've managed to pull it off against teams when we were at a low ebb.

The black card on Turley was when the game was turning. He was the best player in the middle when the sides met in the league. His black card can't be disputed and bore the hallmarks of a player that was running out of steam.

The Down heads dropped showing signs of a team with no confidence. Most teams when they're being outplayed show a bit of aggression to test opposition in another way. Not so Down yesterday.

A few weeks out...Monaghan will be favourites but the Aristocrats will be going to Clones thinking that they'll upset the odds. The league game showed there's is no gulf in class between the two sides. The Down attack caused the Monaghan defence a lot of problems and Down won most of the primary possession in midfield.

Monaghan will need to be on top of their game to win this.

Happy to renew acquaintances with the Breiffne in the top flight next year. Suspect they'll last as long as this year's newbies Down.

(The Cavan 1st goal today was a cleverly disguised lift ball)
That's mean spirited Barbarino  and on a day when Monaghan's teeth skin was just marginally thicker than Cork's.
Just be grateful we didn't pass by Cavan on our way down to Div 2.

Moi, mean spirited a propos Cavan. Jamais. Feck of with your generosity of spirit ye lundy.

Great to win this having gone 7 points down at the start. A small county going through a transition period, maintaining top flight status is a great achievement. We'll be all the more competitive for the coming championships.

Donegal still rank higher than us by virtue of going to semi final stage.

Down will have nothing to lose come Championship 1st round. If we beat them it's Dún na nGall arís.

And them Tyronie hoors will wait in the wings, while we tear strips of one another.

However lets not forget that the real villains here are Roscommon.

We were supposed to beat Roscommon and Down in our first two games and then those two were supposed to get bate every week so that four points would be enough to stay up. F**k Roscommon anyway!!!  >:( ;)

I hear ye Charlie. Thon Rossies are contrary arsed feckers. Thought we were home and hosed in D1 after the first two games. Mayo, a quality outfit and all that, hurt us at home, which I reckoned was going to be a win.

We really need to beat Kerry now. We can't always depend on beating Donegal ;).

Hope the queue for tea isn't as slow during half time as it was at the Down game.

Monaghan just always seem to come up short against the big boys.

And you just always seem to be a w**ker.

Good game in bad conditions with both sides really going for the win.

Very frustrating to see so many lateral passes with the wind advantage in the 2nd half, but thought we looked fitter in the last quarter and were on course to register the win.

Darren Hughes, far from his best game for Monaghan, gave a poor pass and Roscommon took advantage to go ahead. Finally some quick passing forward to Malone to equalise in response and then experience told from there.

McAdam's first yellow was very harsh. Malone, Drew Wylie and Kerr were best for Monaghan and McKenna gave a very assured display when he came on. He definitely deserves to start against Down.

Moysider, Des Newton was one of our own and only lasted a year.

Didn t get the abuse Maughan did.
Likes of McStay or Horan would be nuts to go near it as well.

Maughan picked a fight with the populace. I doubt many managers would be as silly.

Picked the wrong populace to fight with. Ming is the man.

Clones is an awful hole of a town and no place for a large stadium. Two and a half narrow roads into it means traffic chaos. The only reason it is associated with big games atmospheres is cos it gets all the big games like Ulster finals!
I travel to Belfast regularly and the potential of big games at Casement is very exciting with the new stadium. The infrastructure is miles ahead of Clones village and will inevitably become the home of Ulster football I'd say

Why a swanker (with a silent 's') from Sligo is taking swipes at Clones beats me. When was the last time there was a big game in Casement with an attendance of 30,000? Casement is miles away from the train station and if you manage to get a taxi, you're go nowhere fast. Andersonstown Road is complete bedlam with a crowd of less than 20,000.

St. Tiernach's Park (owned by the Ulster Council) hasn't had a penny spent on infrastructure in decades, to facilitate the switch to Belfast. Bullying Health and Safety officers and backhanders to the residents will sort it out.  ::)

Antrim deserves better - and to be better represented on their county board. For what its worth, I think that the local residents were treated poorly over the whole thing - there is such a lack of humility shown from the Ulster Council execs, and it is their arrogance which has caused this mess...riding over the top of experts in health and safety and the local community.

Antrim football needs better investment at underage and schools level as much as it needs casement...Clones, pair Esler, Athletic Grounds, Brefini, Brewster - are all class stadia....and all underused....even celtic park on a bright day...healy is another story all together....
A modest casement park and the rotation of the ulsterfinal between Clones and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

When you have people like feeny running around suffering from small man syndrome, bullying and telling lies, its hardly surprising that the locals and other stakeholders will rare up

Agree...mostly. Certainly this has been a top down driven project, which isn't the GAA way. Or at least it wasn't until the corporatists took over.

Unless there are big rabbits pulled out of hats with A'town locals, it's going to be a reduced capacity Casement, of 25,000. Clones holds significantly more at present, but is far from all-seater. I was able to take the family to the final last weekend for €52, which was good value. That won't be the case in Casement, if they're are to exceed or come close to the revenue taken last weekend.

It's all about the money. The club/parish/county ethos is being scrapped. .
