Totally blown out of proportion, I also notice there's no mention of the Killarney fan who was arrested on the pitch for having a pellet gun on him?

Yes but he was from the South!

GAA Discussion / Are Sligo Promoted
April 11, 2010, 04:44:30 PM
Are Sligo promoted to Division 2. I see from the leage tables that Antrim, Wexford and sligo are level on 10 points. I;m not sure of the head to heads. fair play to Sligo. A Brilliant manager in Walsh and a fine club system to boot. Great for Connacht football to see them progress. The Championship in Connacht will be an exciting one with Galway, Sligo and Mayo on the the same side of the draw.

Five of the St. Colman's supporters were taken away by the gardai following the final whistle as they attempted to make their way onto the playing surface.
Peter, i cant help but notice you mentioned that there were 5 college supporters taken away by the Gardaí, when there was only 3.

My next point is regarding the abuse directed at Galvin,
To his credit Galvin never rose to the bait and completely ignored the St.Coleman's supporters who were merely yards away from him for the entire match.
this was not as bad as you make it out, as the majority of the college support were situated towards the hill 16 end of the hogan stand, and Galvin was standing towards the canal end.

Drink, no doubt, was a major factor in the behaviour of the supporters as the smell of alcohol emanating from their section of the ground was strong
you must have some nose on you to be able to smell a whole section of drink with about 200-300 supporters. Personally i think this is your typical southern bias towards an ulster team winning another all-ireland this year. the same type of complaing was evident when they beat a mayo team in the semi final. Blow everything out of proportion

This blog has not a thing to do with me. I saw it on the GAAtipster website. Its interesting reading and if true puts a sad slant on St Colemans win.

Shameful acts from the St Colmans supporters at the Hogan cup final. Worse then soccer holigans apparently. Its a shame that a team cant win with dignity. Anyone else at the final to verify the acts? more can be seen from this blog.

Mayo / Re: Mayo Club Football.

I see that Islandeady beat Tourmakeady by a point down in Tourmakeady. How are they still Junior? peaking too early in the league. I remember then running Ballina very close last year also.

Terrible performance. One of the most laboured and ugly Mayo displays in ages.
Mayo had a commanding 25 minutes  coming from behind to win easing away in a competitive game, defending well, playing good attacking football and making score after score.
What more can you want at this stage? I would be well pleased with the Mayo bottle after that.

I think all mayo fans will be delighted with the last 20 minutes, but last year we had a habit early in the season of falling way behind in games and having to come back, happened against Donegal, Galway in the league, New York in the championship even. The first half today was as bad as we have been in the last two years, hopefully it was just a blip.

We won't beat Sligo in Markievicz playing like we did today in the first half, that's for sure.

I think we would beat Sligo quite easily on that performance even. We played in first gear for that 1st hand/start of 2nd half and when it really matter the lads upped a gear two and accounted quite easliy for Monaghan, thats something to be admired and johno said after the match on TG4 if we could dominate the game for 70 minutes then we'd have no problems becoming All Ireland champions every year. Its a work in practice its seen what we need to improve on and we have plenty of time to do it.

Very interesting article in the weekend review of the Irish independent about payments to players. In 1888 when Galway were playing Tipperary Seven of the Tipp team refused to travel to the game due to a row over payments.

The article points out that the amateur status was not codified until 1954 and that some players would take leave of their jobs and train for 2 to 6 weeks. Roscommon players in 1946 received 10 pounds per week and in 1953 Armagh players received 20 pounds per week the GAA hierarchy then banned this practice in 1954. Its very interesting i was never aware of the murky history of payments to players/managers i just assumed that the amateur status was there from the beginning. Does anyone else have any other info or stories on this?

Was in my local bookmakers there at lunch time. He has Tyrone as favourites for the AI this year, at 5/2, slightly ahead of Kerry second in the betting at 11/4? ??? ??? ???

Genuinely puzzled by these odds, I would have had Kerry favourites and Cork second?

That comment is the most idiotic statement i have ever seen, are you by any chance Dellboypolecat from HS?

i like your style.

I don't mean to be cruel but anybody with a rudementry knowledge of Gaelic football knows that Kerry are at a massive crossroads, may be even be a few years before they transfrom there team.

Paranoia can be related with abandonment issues, yis deserting 26 county basties!   :P

You say paranoid, we say, f*ck you, what's your real agenda?

I dont mean this in an insulting way but imagine when there is a United Ireland, the paranoia will reach epic levels then! us poor Mayo creitins in the west will get nothing at all then!

Yis were doing alright for roads, airports, arts theatres and divine interventions last time I looked!

To Hell or to Connaught, via Aer Arrnan... Would you like Bryan Adams tickets?

Yes but i wont be happy until there is a motorway running from Erris all the way down to Cong, though there could be some planning issues coming from the Erris region, they dont like change up there, i'm still half blinded from looking at the sun in knock! I apologise in advance for that eejit Enda Kenny

Should apologise for the Flynnasty first.

I have a good time for the Flynns even if they are "Fish heads" worse still would be an Islandeady man leading the country

It started when Collins sold us out and Jack Lynch in 1969  promised to intervene and did the dirt Then youse let foreign games into Croke Park, sold out to the GPA, voted for the British army to play Gaelic games and put in the back door system to help Mayo win Sam... tho that didn't work. Apart from that, we trust you Mexicans with our lives... not with our children tho  :o

:D :D :D :D :D true

I once heard an Armagh fella blame the Cork folk for telling the Spanish to f**k off at the Battle of Kinsale, I kid you not.
It's a good one alright. Them Antrim folks have long memories. (Probably true as well.)
Wexford are nearly as bad.
I was at a Leinster hurling final one time back in the 90s and Kilkenny had slaughtered Wexford once more. I was in my local, Tom Kennedys  in Drumcondra, that night and I overheard a row going on at the table beside me. A few heads from both counties were hard at it and tempers were rising, to put it mildly.
One Wexford man could take no more; he staggered to his feet and in a voice that could be heard all around the shop, he roared, "Ah, f**k you and yer bloody Leinster titles. At least, we never pissed on the powder in '98!"
He then stormed out of the place but what intrigued me was the reaction of the few Kilkenny fellas that were there.
They knew damn well what he meant and they shut up after that. There was no more slagging from that quarter anyway.
What the feck did we do?

Yous pissed on the powder kegs!
