It's not whether he's wrong or not, he's meant to be delivering facts or stats but he can't even put it into a coherent sentence. He says he thinks they beat Letrim, either they did or didn't & you've had all week to do your research. And the constant "eh, like, eh" is embarassingly amateurish

OK but that seems minor in comparison to some of the other faults the programme has
That's just 1 example of many. Ger Canning is rubbish too, he referred to Jarlath Burns as ex Down captain at 1 stage. They should both be dispensed with, it's a woeful standard.

I've series record set on TSG, watched Down game live earlier & couldn't believe the standard of commentary so just gone back to check some of it now. Here's Martin Carney when asked to build up the game just prior to throw-in:
"Look at Down for openers, like in the last 3 years, they've played something I think like 7 games and in championship, they've only won 1 & that was eh eh against Leitrim I think in qualifiers"
WTF is that for delivery, it's a f*cking joke that we pay a license fee to listen to this chancer. Have Down played 7 games with only 1 championship win in last 3 years or is this what Martin thinks?? These are simple facts which should be easily delivered by someone with any competence. RTE are sadly lacking in this

Yes, if the player being fouled takes more than 4 steps you give him the free, you don't just let him run endlessly because he's being fouled. It's simple stuff really. Thought the ref was very poor in the Mayo game, gave frees for the slightest contact especially for Sligo when they were chasing the game in the 2nd half

The fact that the Mayo guy took 12 steps for his goal wasn't even mentioned in the analysis? Brolly is right about the football being a farce - expected easy wins for Mon, Don, Mayo - what a waste of time & effort

I don't agree Bomber. I was at it & thought McCarron was Tyrone's best player. He was right with Moran every time & turned him over in the tackle 3 or 4 times.

Anyway, it's the other end of the field that's the problem. Would be nice to say that today's shooting was a one-off but it's happening too often now. Even if we had COC for frees alone we'd have won today. Same old shite on frees today - Morgan, Harte, McCurry all missing from easier positions than COC was scoring from.

So bloody frustrating

The last 3 league fixtures between the sides were all won by Tyrone
2013 Mayo    1.11 - 1.12 Tyrone
2014 Tyrone 2.15 – 0.15   Mayo
2015 Mayo    1.07 - 1.11 Tyrone

Mickey has named probably our strongest team and it will be good to see Sludden getting back to the sort of form he started the league with. Mattie will probably be feeling a bit frustrated having not really played well in the FF line as yet. I would expect a reaction from the lads after such a poor showing last week away to Donegal and they know if they've any chance of appearing in a league final they gotta win this one.
I wonder will Keegan be marking Sean again this time?
I remember being at the match in Omagh in 2014. Matty & McCurry played inside that day & ran riot in the 1st half. Hopefully similar tactics & result tomorrow

well if he wasnt the tyrone manager then he is a nobody. just another ex tyrone manager.

Can't believe someone actually typed this!! That line will be your legacy by the looks of it

Who would you have in to replace Harte?
mattie mc gleenan, malachy o rourke, current u21 team, paddy tally. in that order of preference but would take either.

You talk some shots STG, what significant tactical changes would any of those management teams bring to Tyrone?

He's already said previously that McGleenan will bring a new form of attacking football and do away with the blanket defence. Looking forward to watching all the Cavan games this year, expecting huge scores from them.
Yeah like the Monaghan game, a real hum-finger, 7pts each at the end! Attacking football his arse

O'Neill (rotation to continue)
Hampsey
McNamee
McCarron
Meyler
Justy
McCann
C Cavanagh
McClure
Petey
Sludden
Matty
Brennan
S Cavanagh
McCurry
I'd go with that but have Rory Brennan in & drop McCurry - we should move away from the thinking of having the 2 nippy corner-forwards - there's no point as they don't score heavily anymore

GAA Discussion / Re: Super 8s

I think the solution for the GAA is to go back a version of the way the league was run in the late 80's/early 90's. Then is you won Div3 you got a shot at one of the Div1 teams in the QF's. It would need to be adapted to maybe have knock-out starting at last-16 stage, so you'd have say 6 spots for Div1, 5 for Div2, 3 for Div3, 2 for Div4. You would keep promotion/relegation as is.

You would play provincial championships & any team making the provincial final is guaranteed a place in the last 16 also - so this keeps them meaningful for teams. Provincial winners could be guaranteed a home draw in the last 16 too to keep it worth winning for the big teams who are likely going to be in Div1 top 6.

You could organise fixtures by playing 4 rounds of the league over 6-7 weeks say in March/April. Then break for 5-6 weeks for club football. Then back in July to play provincial championships. August & September you finish off the remaining league games & AI series.

Do you think this would get through congress?  ;)

Hard to see that XV troubling the Dubs if they are anyway interested. Would McShane not be better in midfield instead of McNulty. Hopefully Brennan can get back to fitness & plug in at CHB. Harte & Matty are too accurate to be playing in defence

Yes Munchkin, I actually had the soccer in mind too, no reason league based championship & Provincial Cup competitions can't be run in tandem much like the way the FA Cup games are interspersed with Premier League games.

You just have to look at the Cavan V Dublin game last weekend as an example of the kind of championship game you could have - imagine the event that would be if it was a Saturday evening game in Breffni on a baking hot day in the middle of July

Very encouraging to see Hampsey & Monroe starting & McShane at FF. At least Mickey is trying new things. Would have preferred to see Bradley or Lee start ahead of RON though. Wonder will keepers be rotated or is MON now 1st choice

Tyrone / Re: Tyrone County Football and Hurling

If anything it encourages defensive play. If you win 8-4 (4 point margin) your scoring average is 2. If you win 24-16 (8 point margin) your scoring average is only 1.5. You'd wonder who comes up with these rules
