Hurling Discussion / Re: Up and coming Hurling Stars
April 04, 2012, 04:26:05 PM
I'd say he's not a mile off with his prediction. He mentions that these young fellas are the start of the batch of hurlers coming through, who were exposed to the new coaching structures at underage and school levels. To me Hurling is such a skillful game that it could be very possible for someone to come through and exceed the already remarkable career of Henry Shefflin.

LAR CORBETT has retired and Henry Shefflin and Eoin Kelly are in the twilight of their hurling careers.

But a whole host of hotshots have suddenly emerged — good enough to emulate those superstars.

That is the view of Ger Cunningham.

And the UL manager reckons emerging talents such as Limerick pair Declan Hannon and Shane Dowling, Clare's Conor McGrath, Cork's Conor Lehane and Galway's Niall Burke are the real deal. Cunningham said: "One or two of those lads are definitely going to be the next Henry Shefflin or Eoin Kelly. To me they seem to have it all. There's no reason why they can't develop into players of that level.

Hi all,

Who are the current top 3 hurlers in Ireland? Who do you all believe to be the next 'Shefflin'?

Will this star come from within Kilkenny again? Has Liam Watson the ability to gain this recognition, even though he hurls for Antrim?

Be very interested to hear your thoughts...

I'd hardly classify that as seeing snippets! ;)

Well i guess the fact that you saw snippets doesn't put you in a position to make a comment on his performance.

I think anyone on here will tell you its wasn't his best day at the office!

Thoroughly entertaining game of football. Oh how we long for a bit of this at county level. Ref wasn't great but aren't we used to it at this point?

Really impressed with Garrycastle, they carried the 'written off' attitude into the game and were the better team for majority of game. But good old Cross, relentless and never abandon style of play.

Maybe its just me but i felt Jamie Clarke 'pulled out' of his attempted flick with the hand for the missed goal opportunity. Wasn't prepared to take one for an All-Ireland! Had he been braver he would have scored. I'm i being harsh? Probably!

Slightly off topic following this evenings disappointing game, but could some of the more knowledgeable Irish rugby fans let me know who they think is the next big Irish Rugby Union Star?

I Can't understand the placing of Darren Hughes at full back either! Especially when you have Dessie Mone and Corey there for FB.
Hughes is an exceptional footballer and a real powerhouse. If it were my team he would be CHB of MF.
On a couple of occasions he burst up the pitch before playing an accurate kick pass to FF line, then had to turn on his heels and sprint back to his man!

Probably should have posted this a bit sooner but just wanted to highlight the recent achievement of Hitchens (owned by a Derry and Tyrone man) out in Dubai!
