Sidney, just by way of a sneak preview, and I promise I'll be rushing out to buy the book, is it safe to say Canice would gladly have swapped at least one Celtic Cross and any number of All Star Awards for the elusive County medal which he was robbed of in 08 after doing d'oul cruciate as I recall?

I couldn't spend five minutes in an assembly of people where everybody starts every answer to every question with "So".

So did you get an invite and turn it down, like?

Apologies Sidney just seen where you gave the "every game is 50/50 bit a rattle". Great effort all round

I think you've covered most of Canices' characteristics pretty much to a T. Possibly one bit missing from 3 or 4 years ago when he was at the height of his inter county career................."..............sure we never were going to under estimate Laois/Offaly/Wexford/Antrim they've given us some serious competition over the years and exactly as we expected they came out and hurled some savage ball and were right on our tails up until the final three minutes when I suppose we got a few lucky breaks that you always need to come out on the right side of a 45 point winning margin mark my words these lads are on the way up and we'll have to stay right on the top of our game to stay with them with the savage work they're puttin in at underage level.............." or maybe that's the boss.

WTF is all this deification of BOD. I just don't get it. Am I missing something or just out of tune with the rest of the great unwashed.

Gatland made the call, as he was entitled to do, and stuck to his guns. More power to him. He was vindicated and BOD should stop his effing moaning and move on.

I wasn't picked for the 1984 minor championship final in Longford - do you hear me moaning. No siree Bob.

In fairness now SS were you not a brave lock a years overage at that stage. Agree with your general sentiment, That Welsh bloke that writes for the Sunday times (Stephen Jones) was doing a (presumably) tongue in cheek article before the last tour about what each of the four countries bring to the tour, when he got to Ireland the jist was,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"50 players that are absolutely nailed on deserving to start each test......" BOD was great, he's getting to the end, we should move on.

Holed up in the Westbury talking to his lawyers for a week before heading out with Bill and Bono for dinner, lot of hungry young golfers who will be snapping at his heels in a year or two don't have those distractions. Needs to get back on the course big time if he wants to retain his order of merit position, but sure he's made for life financially I suppose

Passage won their first ever Waterford senior title today with an amazing finish to beat Ballygunner 3-16 to 3-13. They were 7 points behind in last 10 minutes and some people were leaving early. They got 4 points in a row to come to within 3 points going into injury time. They then got a goal to draw level and then Conor Carey got the winning goal with about 30 seconds to go. Huge support for Passage there and there will be great celebrations there for a while.

absolutely marvellous for a whole number of reasons not least being all they have been through in Passage village in the past few months.

RIP Phil will always remember you particularly for writing what I think is the ultimate song of the Irish emigrant experience.

The reason we had a  no vote yesterday in my opinion is due in no small part to the 20% of the voting electorate who are the vote no to everything including the proposed canonisation of Mother Theresa idea. Anybody with any doubts on this one should go back to the most populist referendum we have ever had to give politicians some say in the setting of judges pay when 20% of the electorate voted against that for gods sake. These are probably the same dudes who would have voted against a proposal to maintain or increase judges pay. So there we have yesterdays no vote, 20% eternal naysayers, some percentage with genuine concerns and another very substantial group who were just dying to remind Enda that the Mayo for Sam card sometime is a bit too close to the Bertie image for comfort.

Reform of the Seanad??? cop on lads FG will drop this idea like a hot spud and our Senators who made themselves visible in their own self interests over the last few weeks will heave a big sigh of relief.

Hardy, I'm 53 years of age, remind me of a few things the Seanad have done in my lifetime that I should be genuinely grateful for, not to include the spotting of upside down full stops on legislation making its way to the Aras.

So what was the reason for the attempted abolition of the Seanad?
[/quote

My reason for voting for its abolition was when I tried to think of one occasion in my life when the Seanad prevented the Dail from grabbing power and riding  roughshod over the people, couldn't think of any, that's not saying it hasn't happened mind.

Heard the stuff that we were being suckered into voting for much more than the abolition of the Seanad and the wording of the ballot paper would make you wonder all right. Missus had reviewed the Referendum Commission documents and saw no reference to anything of major note so I suppose you have to have some faith in that group.

For years you've been getting off with fairly dodge looking birds, in fact you've went home with a few real moonpigs. You did pull a bird once that looked like a real stunner when she was dolled up but she treated you like shit and eventually you grew a pair of balls and told her where to go, more in hope that she'd cop herself on and treat you better because she did claim to love you. She moved away and started scoring some gym monkey instead and pretended you didn't exist. In fact one night she was back in town and made a point of going into the bar you frequent and wearing the face of this guy in front of you.

So you get your shit together, you get some new clothes, get a hairdo, work on your chat up lines and suddenly find yourself with a really good looking bird, she's dead sound and there's none of the usual bullshit with her, she's not expecting you to do the chasing, the type of girl you've been looking for. You really think this could be going somewhere, you're hitting it off and you've been out on a few really good dates lately. The ex-stunner walks into the bar one night, still looks pretty well but you're now noticing just how much make she wears. Things didn't work out between her and the gym monkey, he realised when he had her that he didn't really want her, you know that's the only reason she's back in town. You know for a fact that your new girl severely dislikes her and if she see you going over to her it's going to piss her off, might even ruin your chances.

What would you do?

Jesus Westside did you mean to post this on the Holidays In California Thread?

The often mentioned view that this board is way ahead of anything on hoganstand is laughable. I havn't posted on hoganstand in years but it's good for regular news, and the some of the threads I read are pretty similar to the writing on here

Agree with that assessment, there is this type of postgraduate smugness about some posters here vis a vis hogan stand. Main threads on Hogan Stand can be both informed and entertaining. On my own countys thread there are a few wind up merchants but you know who they are. There is an ignore function, like Dinny I've only ever used it once.
