See a few on here recommending lastminute.com, just a word of warning though I got stung by them recently.  Booked a good value hotel for a midweek break with them.  They phoned at 9pm the night before my trip to tell me they had overbooked and were canceling and would refund me within 2 weeks.  I asked if they were providing alternative accommodation but they said no it wasn't cost effective for them to do that. As it was coincidentally London Fashion week I ended up paying an arm and a leg for a decent place in Victoria.  Moral of story not a bad idea to check with the hotel after you book through lastminute.com

Thanks for the advice, what airport is best to fly into and what airline did you use?

Flew Easyjet to Gatwick and found it handy as theres an express train from there to Victoria station which is where we staying.  TBH i dont find much of a difference between the London Airports

Ive had two brothers go who both reckoned it was really professional and good fun but a tad on the expensive side.  They also said their kids around 6-8 enjoyed it most, more than the youngest (3-4) or eldest (10)

Today it was minus 6 at 06:30.

I went out this morning and started the car and cleared the windscreen with luke warm water. Came back out and it had frozen over again.

I always found that cool water was better for the windscreen as it takes longer to freeze over again, the trick though is to make sure its only just warm enough to get rid of the ice and that you get the wipers on it straight away

Bit of a long shot but I was wondering if any one on the board had two tickets for Dara O'Briain in the Waterfront on Tuesday Nov 9th that they might swap for two tickets to the show on the 10th.

No not joking.  It was on a few months ago.  Off to look it up on the interweb.

They have television channels on it.

Frightening isn't it.

Took this quote from the Wikipedia article on the 'sport'

The inaugural Budweiser International Rock, Paper, Scissors Federation Championship was held in Beijing, China after the close of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. A Belfast man won the competition.

The winner of the big tournaments seems to get $50,000

Unbelievable

Ref having a mare. United should have had a pen for a push on Evra, and Stoke one for a push on Huth!

Fergie knew who Neville was anyhow. "Off to f**k son. You're past it".

There was a foul on VDS just before the push on Huth, the Evra one was a clear penalty even if he did exaggerate it

General discussion / Re: Pele or Maradona?

I remember listening to Tim Vickery one night saying there was a poll in Brazil around the same time as the FIFA poll for Brazilan player of the century and Pele finished second to Garrincha in that. That said I believe he's the only man with 3 world cup winners medals although I can't be sure of that

Glad to see the Vikings get back in the mix in the NFC east which has been surprisingly poor given preseason predictions. The cowboys are in big trouble now in a big hole in a tough division

the Vikings moved divisions now?

Sorry for some reason I had Dallas' division in my head when writing that

The problem for Dallas was if they turned it over on downs the Vikings were starting in field goal range and would almost certainly require the cowboys to grab a touchdown to win the game on the last drive. Even if they had got it on fourth down and ended up scoring the vikings would have gotten the ball back with timeouts remaining. Alternatively if they could force the Vikings to go three and out Dallas would have gotten the ball back at around the two minute warning and could have had the last crack at a score.

It was this bit that I thought was a bit of sense.

You lot are missing my point. Read above!!!

Police out as revenue earners instead of proper police work. >:(
So you want the cops to ignore law breaking because there's more serious law breaking?

I would, clearly given that police resources are limited I would like them to be better apportioned. Often you see speed checks in areas that are conducive to above speed limit speeds. The reason the checks are there isn't because the police feel it's the best way to reduce dangerous speeding, it's because it's a good way to inflate both their statistics and their coffers. So given the choice yes there are many laws being broken that I wouldn't mind the police ignoring in order to better spread their resources

Having been in court recently and then read the BBC reports of the same case I would imagine there is a lot more to this case than meets the eye.  I would imagine that there could be any number of mitigating factors in this case that havent been reported, a district judge would deal with a large number of speeding cases on a daily basis and the fact he has chosen a lenient penalty in this case suggests that there was something unusual about it

Armagh / Re: Armagh Club football & hurling

Very good final today I thought with the grange utterly dominant until the last ten minutes when they ran out of steam. Tullysaran scored the last 6 points I believe to make the game look closer than it was.

Grange dominated midfield and were able to break from there at will. Despite this Tullysaran made no changes in this area and continued to kick every goal kick straight to the area. It really allowed the Grange to get on top

No I actually wanted tickets for all seven games. I was told the only way to do this was buy either 6 game season tickets and miss the Russia game or alternatively buy tickets for the Norway game twice so your anelergy is completely wrong

Just for an update. Managed to pick up two tickets from the FAI headquarters despite being told on the phone that wasn't possible. Tickets were for the North Stand. When we got in we were told seating was unreserved despite what the ticket said so we could sit anywhere. As a result ended up sitting near the two blocks of Russians, which made for a great atmosphere. Only problem was owing to kids standing on seats in the front row and some quite aggressive Russians in the row behind we were Up and down like a yo yo.

At the end of the game we were then physically prevented from leaving from any exit other than the one the Russians were leaving through and I was even at one stage pushed toward that exit by a steward. Given the number of people being forced through that exit and down the stairs I'd be surprised if no one was injured. The organization was a shambles last night I thought
